Re: Civilisation Board Game

I am not sure if I was already tired when I began to play, but after
nine straight hours playing... I do not think the owner of the game
ever
proposed to play again, at least not to me! There might be people that
like the game, but I suppose that either they knew the rules
beforehand
(and therefore could play faster) or they need more than one sitting
to
finish a game. Like many games that let play many people, some can be
out of the game after one or two hours, so they might sabotage the
game
just because they do not see any possible comeback into top position.
Maybe I was unfortunate with the game and the players, though. Have
you
tried "Attack" yet? It looks more maneagable for one afternoon.

RE: Re: Civilisation Board Game

I feel the need to defend Civ, it is a 10 hour game or there about so you
need to devote time to it. I have rarely ever seen any one knocked out
completely. Remember it is not your strength on the map that matters it is
the civilisation cards that you purchase. You can always get back in to a
position because the disaster cards will hurt the big guys more. If you want
to speed up play but a strict time limit on commodity trading.

RE: Civilisation Board Game

i find not wiping someone out completely is worse than wiping them out. At least if you kill them off they can
leave. Instead what they tend to have is an empire consisting of 1 or 2 worthless cities that you couldn't
have been bothered sending troops to take as they have no commodities. So they are left there netting less
than 10 gold a turn meaning it takes several turns to even buy a unit from the current era and giving them next
to no hope of getting any of the tech or qualifications to win.

Re: Civilisation Board Game

Ye are talking about different games. Joe (and the people who started this
mail) are refering to the Francis Tresham game released in the late 70's and
printed by Avalon Hill and Gibson games throughout the 80's.

The one you are refering to Liam, is Sid Meiers Civilisation the Boardgame,
and game from a few years ago by Eagle Games and based on the computer game
of the same name...

(Microprose, the developer of Civ, now a part of Hasbro, bought Hartland
Trefoil, the small games company that made the original Civilisation
boardgame to shore up copyright concerns)

RE: Re: Civilisation Board Game

Was beginning to wonder if that was the case, in AH Civ even down to no
cities you could always come back because some one could get hit with civil
war or piracy or something that could clear out a lot of cities or in the
case of civil war simply hand over control of cities to you.
