If you connect without a lobby (i.e. through console) you can still turn on
cheats.

Correct. That's why it suggests using "map mapname", since that gets you
into a local server without a lobby. Similarly, when a dedicated server is
unreserved, you can connect to it without a lobby.

Seems to be working here its just flat lining the port allocation. I'll
drop the guys a valve a mail and see if there's anyway to make this

I'll change the default location to be ../steam in the L4D and TF/OB srcds_run, since this seems to be what
everyone expects it to be. I'll see if I can make locating the steam binary a little smarter. The change I
made to allow you to specify the steam binary location didn't make it into this release. 

./steam definitely doesn't make sense. ../steam makes more sense, but it isn't perfect because if someone
runs the install like this:

	./steam <...> -dir valvegames

Or something else, then steam isn't ../steam. It is ../../steam or something completely different.

It looks like the autoupdate on startup is still broken.  I am using -autoupdate and -steamverify but I
still get the message "Could not locate steam binary" and then startup moves on without checking for updates.

It looks like the culprit is this section of updatesingle() in srcds_run:

Maybe adding something at the beginning of the script to set a default 
$STEAM value would be the best solution.  The value could be replaced 
later when the arguments are parsed, in case one was specified by a 
command-line option.

Something like this:

... <set variables> ...

     if test -f ./steam ; then
         STEAM="./steam"
     elif test -f ../steam ; then
         STEAM="../steam"
     else
         STEAM=""
     fi

... <parse command-line arguments> ...

will there be a fresh download of bins for l4d2 or will we be able to

a fresh installation. No upgrade.

Team Fortress 2 Update Available

A required update for Team Fortress 2 is now available.  Please run hldsupdatetool to receive it.  The
specific issues include:

- Fixed client-side perf problem after changing levels on Koth_Harvest_Event.

Linux:
- Add warning if +map is not specified on the command line
- Steam is located by searching .., . and $PATH
- Added -steambin option to specify location steam, overrides search
- Added -steamverify option to add -verify_all when updating with steam
