Caribbean map done, how to see it?

Hi

At last I made everything, as shown in the tutorial, but I didn't add
any airport, the final use of the map is for a pirates game (check
freebooters) as the developer are thinking about moving into 3D, and
terragear/simegar looks like an easy approach (I think so, Im testing it)

So i build the map of w090n20 (center of caribbean if Im not wrong) and
i try to see it in 3D, i try with FlightGear and as noted in the
tutorial I ran

FG_SCENERY=./Scenery fgfs --fdm=magic --disable-panel

and i see a lot of sea, i tried to move, but only managed to see more sea, i liked to test if costal lines are fine
so
I download Atlas and with the Map utility it takes some photos, that looks alright, but I want to see in in 3D,
any easy way to do that?

Im planing on testing the map, and later move to simgear to began developing for the game, but first need to
see if the map
is properly generated, so if anyone knows how to do that be great.

Ah, and if someone knows how to extract, if its possible, from the vmap0 the ocean tiles, and if possible the
coastal ocean tiles
that will be more than great.

Thanks and sorry for my bad English.

flightgear starts by default at sfo (san francisco airport). you will
also need to specify the latitude and longitude of your starting
point: something like --lat=23 --lon=-84

Brilliant.

I'd note that Africa and Islandia have been released as well, so we have
the whole world 60N to 60S now.

Obligitory plug for cleaning and displaying tools for SRTM + Digital
Chart of the World (VMAP0) data:

  http://mpa.itc.it/rs/srtm/

Included scripts:
srtm_generate_hdr.sh: general shell script to make GeoTIFF from original
SRTM90 files. Requires GDAL tools to be installed.
  http://www.remotesensing.org/gdal

r.in.srtm: GRASS GIS script to import original SRTM files. Requires above
script to be installed in PATH. Fixes the INTEGER encoding, applies
color table. To use in Lat/Long LOCATIONS (WGS84, to be precise EGM96).
  http://grass.ibiblio.org

Holes in the SRTM data can be closed within GRASS with 'r.fillnulls'
(uses splines).

Hope that's useful to someone.

Difficulties getting elevated scenery

 Gidday

I've been trying to build some New Zealand scenery which I got from
ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/Islands/
I specifically want S37E174 but I downloaded lots around that area anyway.
But I've come unstuck, after going through all the steps I thought I
normally did, I get no elevation data. I get all the grass, roads
runways etc but it's all at sea level. I awknowledge that I'm using a
Terragear-cvs version from about February but it's worked before. This
is what I've done

I have a flightgearstuff directory which contains all the .hgt.zip
files, the runways.dat.gz file (from the flightgear 0.9.3) and a
symbolic link to terragear.py
There is also the directory work/SRTM-30

However I'm not sure what type of SRTM data I've got ie STRM-30 or SRTM-90

From my flightgearstuff dir I've done:
for i in S*.hgt.zip; do hgtchop 1 $i work/SRTM-30/; done

./terrafit.py -m 50 -x 3000 -e 2 work/SRTM-30/

genapts --input=runways.dat.gz --work=work/ --min-lon=160 --max-lon=180
--min-lat=-50 --max-lat=-10

cd work

tgvpf --chunk=e170s40 --work-dir=LandMass --material=Default
../v0sas/vmaplv0/ sasaus bnd polbnda && tgvpf --chunk=e170s40
