OT

I got a strange shopping mall email [spam] advertisement today. Went there,
and to my astonishment saw this:

http://www.hanbag.co.kr/

Just for grins, I did a Google search, and also found this:

"Easter egg" in photo

Go to the Scaled Composites web site (www.scaled.com), click on the
"Staff" link, and have a good close look at the picture. There's something
"interesting" there. These guys have a sense of humour!

Re: "Easter egg" in photo

I have a friend that works there. Chances are pretty good that he's
responsible for that "new" Rutan design. :)

modeling turbine engines

I've got one of the old NASA reports from the '70's that has alot of coefficient data for several jet aircraft and I would like to try and test it out the flight characteristics with FlightGear's JSBsim model.  While I've got an aero background, I'm a bit of a newbie with regards to FlightGear itself and the few sample aircraft I found were either piston engined or rocket propelled...I was wondering how I would go about including a turbine engine (turbojet in this case, since I want to  try the F-104).  I'd appreciate any pointers anybody could give me on this (and apologize if this is a common question).

Regards,

Jim

RE: modeling turbine engines

Hi, Jim:

Currently, there is no formal turbine model for JSBSim. However, we have discussed turbine engine modeling with several people, and there is a group in Peru that has modeled a turbine for JSBSim, as well as one other place whose name escapes me at the moment. We have also discussed turbine modeling with a "highly qualified" propulsion expert, and beginning sometime in August expect collaboration from him in one respect or another - even if it is only pointing us to relevant code, but expect it might be much more than that. This should allow us a broad range of turbine engine models. Until then, I've been hoping to find time to rig up a very simple turbine model _beginning_ with a simple   thrust = throttle*factor   type of arrangement.

Have you seen the latest JSBSim config file description?

JSBSim logo'ed items available

In response to the deafening demand (OK, I've been insistently whining to
myself for months about this - that's the only demand), I have set up a
shop at CafePress.com to make available JSBSim logo'ed merchandise (mugs,
t-shirts, etc.). These items are not marked up for profit, but are left at
the "wholesale" price - I wouldn't know how to split up or use any
profits, anyhow. You can see the shop here:
