FYI http://code.google.com/p/turn-games/

"A generic open-source model for games with turns (chess, go, poker,
bridge, backgammon...)"

HeroEngine terrain painting/splatting

Does anyone have an idea (or is willing to take a guess) on how the terrain painting on the HeroEngine works?  It mentions that the "HeroEngine has a tremendous freedom of textures with support for up to 256 textures in each of the up to 4 layers."  That's a lot of textures, and I'm wondering if that's done using multiple rendering passes or some combination of texture atlases and blend maps.  It seems like they would have to use multiple passes to render and blend that many textures.

Here's the info:

Re: HeroEngine terrain painting/splatting

It's difficult to tell what is meant by that, as far as I can tell
that meas it has 4 logical layers it can blend between, though at any
location each layer can only have one texture. if that is the case it
greatly simplifies texture rendering/blending.

Draft paper submission deadline extended: Software Engineering and Game Development

Draft paper submission deadline extended: Software Engineering and Game Development

The deadline for draft paper submission at the 2009 International Conference on Software Engineering Theory and Practice (SETP-09) (website: http://www.PromoteResearch.org ) is extended due to numerous requests from the authors. As a result, the deadline for paper submission for the special session on Software Engineering and Game Development is also extended accordingly. The conference and the session will be held during July 13-16 2009 in Orlando, FL, USA. We invite draft paper submissions. The conference will take place at the same time and venue where several other international conferences are taking place. The other conferences include:

·         International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition (AIPR-09)

·         International Conference on Automation, Robotics and Control Systems (ARCS-09)

·         International Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics and Chemoinformatics (BCBGC-09)

·         International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems and Web Technologies (EISWT-09)

·         International Conference on High Performance Computing, Networking and Communication Systems (HPCNCS-09)

·         International Conference on Information Security and Privacy (ISP-09)

·         International Conference on Recent Advances in Information Technology and Applications (RAITA-09)

·         International Conference on Theory and Applications of Computational Science (TACS-09)

·         International Conference on Theoretical and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science (TMFCS-09)
