Building for Windows

I'm glad to see at least one other "Crimson Fielder" !
I was beginning to think CF had been 'abandoned' like it's Battle Isle 'ancestor'

For the Windows users amongst you, I've been playing with it quite a bit .. see :-

(you will see from my 'trials & tribulations' that I'm not a programmer :-) )
Kind regards & a Happy New Year, Steve

Happy new year; music works now.

I hope you're all enjoying this year so far.

I'm enjoying my Crimson Fields sessions slightly more since yesterday,
when updating some FreeBSD ports -- I decided to take a lazy way out of
rebuilding one port, and it caused the background music to start
working, which it never did before.

The ports: sdl_sound and sdl_mixer

sdl_mixer uses timidity++ for its midi interface. It depends on
sdl_sound, so naturally I thought the latter had to be built with its
own "Software MIDI music" switch turned ON rather than OFF.

Unfortunately sdl_sound relies on "timidity", the old/abandoned program,
rather than "timidity++". Last time I built sdl_sound, I remember
hacking the Makefile to convince it that it had what it needed from
timidity++ (it never did of course).

This time, I was too tired/lazy to try to fool make. Had a bad cold
last week, couldn't find my old notes. So I just turned "Software MIDI
music" to OFF and rebuilt sdl_sound without it. Somehow sdl_mixer still
could be built with timidity++ option turned ON, and didn't complain.

Afterwards, when I ran crimson (which I have NOT rebuilt lately), I
heard the background midi. I knew it was the game music because it got
quieter or louder when I dragged the music volume slider.

So for future reference, MIDI music can be made to work in FreeBSD at
least by turning MIDI off in a downstream port. Anyone else find that
counter-intuitive? Similar build tricks might make it work in other

Hi all,
I have managed to build bi2cf.exe for Windows.
You can find it here :-

CF Portable?

Will CF be on PortableApps.com? ._. It's already small enough for the win32 version to be carried on a flash stick...

CF portable

CF portable for Windows.
Sending ya a copy of CF with the wrapper. Zipped, as I didn't master the installer creation yet.

WebOS port

Hi,

just to inform you about my WebOS port of Crimson Fields. It comes with
only very small changes at the moment. I'm still working in adding some
more stuff to improve the experience on the small touch screen. Actually
it works on a Palm Pre(+) and still waits for approve at Palm. I hope it
will be released on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Regards
Henk

Ports

Hi. I am not a coder, sadly. But I would like to see a KolibriOS/MenuetOS (FASM) port of this game. Dosbox under Kolibri is just plain laggy because of Kolibri's nature. A good trick would be to use a text map then morph it into the actual grid, with a set of transition rules (then use graphics found in other CF packages). There's no runtimes/libs of normal programming languages on those OS's right now, so a FASM (flat assembler) coder is highly desired for CF to go on that OS.

BTW... is the project scrapped or development busy? there's been no mailing list entries for a looooong time. :(

Sincerely yours, George Sergei Constantinoff (AKA YuraConst).

Hello, maps and Windows.

Does anyone have any BI maps already converted for CF? It'd save a lot of effort and time if CF players shared
their converted maps.

Could someone compile 0.5.3 for Windows? The current Windows binary is at 0.5.1.

Thanks.

Hello , i am trying to make a slackbuild (compile script for Slackware)
for installing Crimson. All is good but i don't know how to get the doc
in html format (for man pages, it's OK).
I have xsltproc, what in the makefile can do the job ? and how use it ?

Thanks

Happy New Year!

Hello. Happy New Year!

http://libircclient.sourceforge.net/ Here is an IRC library under LGPL, you can implement it in CF. the
"whois" command can be used by players to find unmasked users' hosted games. This server technology is
very basic, but you can develop it further, if you want. I'm still on for having a simpler way for players to
find hosted games, that's why I gave this link to you.
