Are there plans to release 8.2?

I've been waiting to upgrade the Fedora package of VM until 8.2 is
declared released. After all, 8.2.0b is officially a beta, right?
But there are some issues with waiting, most recently illustrated by
the bug report https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=960295

Do you have plans to make an official 8.2.0. Or should I package
8.2.0b anyway. True, that "officially released" stamp doesn't make
that much difference in reality. But it would feel a bit better. :-)

vm-visit-imap-folder problem in 8.2.0b

Uday,

I've been starting to use IMAP for my mail now, though I haven't
updated my vm-spool-files setup yet to use IMAP as my main INBOX.
Haven't quite decided how I want that to work.

So now when I startup VM and do 'vm-visit-imap-folder' it doesn't ask
me for my password, while 'vm-list-imap-folders' does. So in a new
emacs/vm session, I have to first list the folders, then I can visit
my imap folder.

I have the following in my vm-imap-account-alist, which I think is
what I need. Am I missing something?

    (setq vm-imap-expunge-after-retrieving nil)
    (setq vm-imap-account-alist
	       '(
		 ("imap-ssl:exmail1:993:*:login:stoffj:*" "exmail1")
		)
    )

This is all on CentOS 6.2, GNU Emacs 23.1.1, vm 8.2.0b. I cheerfully
admit I've been carrying forward most of the same .vm and .emacs
settings for years and years, only fixing things when they break, so
it could be that I'm doing something wrong somewhere.

I do have (require 'vm-autoloads) in my .emacs, though 8.2.0b still
has the bug where it doesn't load vm-reply properly. Can you *please*
release 8.2.0c with that fix?

Help starting up with IMAP

I'm having a bit of trouble getting myself started up with IMAP folders and VM.

Although I have set vm-imap-server-list to a list of my imap servers, when I
start VM, it opens ~/INBOX instead of my IMAP folders.

When I try to visit an IMAP folder (with vm-visit-imap-folder),
I get an error that looks like this:

Starting IMAP over SSL session Thu Jan 31 12:41:40 2013
-- connecting to mail.yyyyyyy.net:993
* OK Dovecot ready.
-- connected for folders
VM CAPABILITY
INTERNAL ERROR: Bad magic at network.c, line 293

Process IMAP over SSL abort trap: 6

Any idea what could be causing that?

I realize that this may be an stunnel issue, rather than VM, but figured it
might be me misconfiguring stunnel by misconfiguring VM.

Any suggestions?

thanks!

Mainly: How do you use virtual folders every day? and other questions

Hello everyone,

I have been using VM for a couple of months or so now and would like to send you a few lines with questions and
some comments. I used Evolution for years but got enerved by problems I had every time I installed a new
distribution. Evolution did not recover using the "backup archive" I made before because of version
conflicts etc. So I hope to migrate my emails more easily whenever I change to a fresh installation.
Secondly I found myself typing C-p and C-n so often, with lots of new-message- and print-dialogs popping
out :) This is why I decided to try out VM. So I am still a beginner, I'd say.

(i) I found a html version of the vm.info document in my /usr/share/doc/vm and found it very useful,
especially to get you going, because there are people like me who have never distinguished between spool
files and folders before... It explains this quite well I think, in contrast to the VMQuickstart page on
the Emacswiki.

Maybe this text would be something that could be included on the vm webpage as well to make this text
accessible to more people.

(ii) Now my main question:

Uday Reddy wrote some time ago
(http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/viewmail-info/2012-10/msg00025.html) :

My question is: How, in more detail, do you use vm, dealing with lots of email traffic, lists, newsletters
and private mails?
For simplicity, let's assume I only have one inbox, say a POP box.
Now I defined some virtual folders which can sort out certain mailing lists or other regularly arriving

bug with labels in virtual folders

After a year (or maybe two) of elapsed time and probably tens of hours
staring at the lisp debugger, I have finally tracked down the most
annoying (for me) outstanding bug in vm. That is, I've fixed it, but I
don't understand the fix or the bug!

My vm is Uday's private 8.2.X branch of 6 February 2012, but I think
this bug is still in trunk (haven't tried it, though).

Here's the bug description:

Create a folder (say /tmp/I) containing a single message.
Visit the folder, and add the label "a" to the message.
Quit the folder.

Now do
(setq vm-virtual-folder-alist
      '(
	("V" (("/tmp/I") (any)))))

Visit the virtual folder V.
Add the label "b" to the message.
The summary mode line will show the message as having labels "a" and
"b", as expected; but in fact the message has only the new label "b".
To see this, save the folder, quit, and re-visit the real folder (or
the virtual folder).

The thing that happened this morning was that I spent so long staring
at one line in the debugger that the flush timer fired while I was
doing so, which magically made the bug not happen.

Text file attachment decoding in Presentation mode

I have the following problem related to non-ASCII characters in
Presentation mode.

When a text file is attached to a message, then the text file is shown
in Presentation mode in full, but accented characters appear as octal
code. (The main body of the message is fine.)

An example message is in the folder attachment_in_presentation, at

  http://www.ime.usp.br/~yoshi/TMP/VM/

A screen shot is also at this URL.

Any help would be most welcome. Many thanks in advance!

Yoshi
