message-citation-line-function

Dear All,

I would like to have a custom message-citation-line-function.  Instead
of having a single line like,

Hallvard B Furuseth <h.b.furuseth <at> usit.uio.no> writes:
> yanked message follows...

I'd like to have 

> Date: ....
> From: ....
> Subject: ....
>
> yanked message follows...

Where "> " is the message-yank-prefix.

Can anybody help?  Or any pointers?

Highlighting whitespace at EOL.

  I'm interested in writing a minor mode for marking up man pages with
the mdoc macros.  One of the things I would like to do is have
whitespace characters at the end of a nonblank line show up in a
different color, so I can easily notice (and remove) these stray marks
(which can easily be done with a macro, but thats not the point).

  I don't need to setup a syntax table for something so trivial, do I?
Is there a good example minor mode to help learn some of this stuff?

You should redefine `message-citation-line-function' variable in appropriate
manner (i.e. it should fetch from original article all headers you need and
`insert's it). May be anybody already did it? I didn't =)

if all you want to do is remove them, there is a simple "command"
to do this:  C-c i C-c C-c.  i use this extensively working with 
funnelweb source code, which doesn't like trailing whitespace.
this is actually two separate commands.  the first, C-c i, enters
picture-mode and the second, C-c C-c, exits it.  it is exiting
picture-mode which does the trailing whitespace removal.

Just last night I ran across a customization variable named 
"show-trailing-whitespace" in chapter 38 of the GNU Emacs Lisp 
Reference Manual.
It seems to be new with Emacs-21.

In gnu emacs 20.3.1 under Sun Solaris 2.6,
what is the emacs command for going to the matching brace ?
( looking for emacs equivalent of % vi command ).

depends on which way you're going.  from on or just before
the "{", type C-M-f.  from just after the "}", type C-M-b.
these same commands also work for "(", ")", and "[", "]".
oh, note that you can't do this for braces in a lisp-mode
buffer.  the reason for all this is that these commands
work for whatever is considered matching delimiters in the
major mode of the buffer.  hope this helps.

It is by holding the CTRL and ALT keys and then using the
"F" key to do a front brace matching or "B" key for back brace
matching.
