bug#4001: 23.1.50; [Cocoa Emacs] emacsclient can't find server via ssh

I tried again with the following steps:

1. machine A with leopard and Cocoa Emacs, ssh login machine B with Ubuntu
2. use machine B to ssh login back to A
3. trigger emacs

I got emacs opening but also the following errors:

Your bug report will be posted to the emacs-pretest-bug <at> gnu.org mailing list.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Hi,

I've recently moved to MAC OS 10.5 and I compiled Emacs 23 just now, following instructions
under nextstep.

The bug i found is just like this:

1. Cocoa Emacs was opened on machine A with server-start.

Using emacsclient directly under machine A is just fine.

But, if I use another machine B to ssh login A, and then use emacsclient,
it then told me no server can be found. It's wired because i've opend Emacs and its server.

The same operations on Emacs under linux is just fine, so i thought maybe
it's a bug related to Cocoa Emacs.

2. Since Step 1 failed, i tried server-file, too.

I adjusted Emacs server to use tcp and with a server name "bread-emacs".

After then, I use B to loginto A via ssh, and invoke

      ./emacsclient --server-file=/Users/bread/.emacs.d/server/bread-emacs abc

I'll get errors like below:

./emacsclient: connected to remote socket at 255.255.255.255
./emacsclient: connect: Can't assign requested address
./emacsclient: error accessing server file "/Users/bread/.emacs.d/server/bread-emacs"

And here's the contents in ~/.emacs.d/server/bread-emacs

I'm not sure if this is a bug, so, if there's more information needed, plz let me know.

Thanks.

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
If you would like to further debug the crash, please read the file
/Users/bread/codes/download/emacs/nextstep/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/etc/DEBUG for instructions.

How does one do that ``with a quick scan''?

Some time between 23.0.60 and 23.1, a minor annoyance was introduced into
rmail. When case-fold-search is nil, the dates in the rmail summary are
all rendered as "??????".

This is because of the regular expression in rmailsum.el at line 529. A
string such as "May" doesn't match the regular expression:
[adfjmnos][acepou][bcglnprtvy]

because the capital letter doesn't match when case-fold-search is nil.

The easy work-around is to turn on case-fold-search, but it would be nice
to fix it properly, so that rmail works no matter what the user-set value
is. It may also be useful to do a quick scan of the .el files to see if
there are other cases where a nil value of case-fold-search might break
some modes or behaviours.

OK the problem is with the following assignment in delete_window:

/* Otherwise, try another window for SWINDOW. */
	swindow = Fnext_window (swindow, Qlambda, Qnil);

This will fail to pick a useful window when deleting the bottom-right
window of a frame. I use

/* Otherwise, try another window for SWINDOW. */
	swindow = Fprevious_window (swindow, Qlambda, Qnil);

which is better for me but fails miserably when deleting the
top-left window of a frame. So maybe we need something like the
attached patch. Could you try it?

bug#4006: 23.1.50; safe-local-variable-values

Hello!

My customisation contains since some days also an entry for an ispell
dictionary (before it consisted of (AUC)TeX-command-default names):

	 '(safe-local-variable-values (quote ((ispell-dictionary .
"english") (TeX-command-default . "XeLaTeX") (TeX-command-default .
"XeTeX") (TeX-command-default . "XeLaTeXx") (TeX-command-default .
"XeTeXx"))))

It was added by GNU Emacs by pressing ! to answer this question:

The local variables list in Beispiel.tex
contains values that may not be safe (*).

Do you want to apply it? You can type
y -- to apply the local variables list.
n -- to ignore the local variables list.
! -- to apply the local variables list, and permanently mark these
values (*) as safe (in the future, they will be set
automatically.)

	  * ispell-dictionary : "english"
	    mode : latex
	    TeX-master : t
	    TeX-command-default : "XeLaTeXx"

In the file I have this header:

	%%!TEX TS-program=xelatex -*- mode: LaTeX; coding: utf-8; ispell-
dictionary: "english"; -*-
	%%!TEX encoding=UTF-8 Unicode
	%
	%	Time-stamp: <2009-07-28 12:42:50>
	%

In a second file have this local variables block:

	\end{document}
	%
	%%% Local Variables:
	%%% mode: LaTeX
	%%% fill-column: 99999
	%%% coding: utf-8-unix
	%%% ispell-dictionary: "english"
	%%% End:
	%
	%%

Actually I have pressed now many times ! and (ispell-dictionary .
"english") is only once recorded! (Which is good!) When I open any of
the LaTeX files after I have pressed y or n and check with C-h v I get:

safe-local-variable-values is a variable defined in `files.el'.
	Its value is
	((TeX-command-default . "XeLaTeX")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeTeX")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeLaTeXx")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeTeXx"))

This variable is ignored when used as a file local variable.
This variable is potentially risky when used as a file local
variable.

	Documentation:
List variable-value pairs that are considered safe.
Each element is a cons cell (VAR . VAL), where VAR is a variable
symbol and VAL is a value that is considered safe.

	You can customize this variable.

	[back]

After having pressed ! I get at least:

	safe-local-variable-values is a variable defined in `files.el'.
	Its value is
	((ispell-dictionary . "english")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeLaTeX")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeTeX")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeLaTeXx")
	 (TeX-command-default . "XeTeXx"))

and it works when I open the next LaTeX file. When I quit GNU Emacs I
see that is writing into my init file. But it never uses this
particular setting (the TeX-command-default's work fine).

I used Emacs.app for my test because it's a few hours younger and
because I'll need to test a patch for an improved handling of native
(Mac OS X) CJK input methods (not yet applied). The X client version
acts exactly the same.

bug#4004: filename completion

In 23.1.50.1, there's a bad interaction between tab completion and
tramp filenames. If you try to do tab completion on
"/ssh:remote-host:~/~/te", where the file "test" exists on the remote
host but not locally, the completion says there's no match.
