Congratulations WIkiEducator -- 14,500 registered users!

Hi Everyone,

Wow -- we're on the verge of reaching 15.000 registered users on WikiEducator and WE're growing by the day :-)

This is an amazing accomplishment made possible by the gifting culture of educators living out their vocation.

We are collaborating with thousands of teachers, lecturers and trainers around the world who are committed to achieving a meaningful educational mission: the belief that learning materials should be freely available for all students of the world.

With the magic of the open web and digital networks, we will achieve our goals without infringing on the basic human rights of creators and distributors of knowledge to earn a living.

That's sustainable education for all!

Cheers
Wayne

tracking user stats. in WE

Is there a way to track user statistics (similar to Google Analytics)
in WE?

Re: tracking user stats. in WE

Hi Ben,

Yes there is -- what sort of stats are you interested in?

You can access overall site stats here:

http://wikieducator.org/stats/

We also run the same analysis script that Wikipedia and other WMF projects use. Here's the link:

http://wikieducator.org/stats/reports/TablesWikipediaEN.htm

As part of the funding we receive from the Hewlett foundation -- we are participating in a Google Analytics project which is installed on the WE servers.

Let us know what you have in mind -- I'm sure we can help.

Cheers
Wayne

Re: tracking user stats. in WE

I'm mainly interested in the following:

1. Daily, weekly, and monthly, quarterly, and yearly report of page
loads, unique visitors, and returning visitors
2. Country and prior website (or at least whether prior site was from
within WE or some external site).

Other information would be icing on the cake: operating system,
browser, average time on site, and bounce rate.

Number one above for me is the most important. What would you
recommend?

Hi Ben,

We can track all of that -- Are you planning a research project of sorts?  Would be great to do this collaboratively as a WE research initiative.

Yes, in fact it is related to research (http://wikieducator.org/
User:Bnleez/Books/PDPLE), and I would like to see about collaborating
with WE on this project.

Re: Re: tracking user stats. in WE

Hi Ben,

No worries -- Yes is possible for us (read Jim :-)) to build scripts to track stats of specific pages. See for example some of the OER projects at Otago Polytechnic:

http://wikieducator.org/User:JimTittsler/Sandbox/Otago_Polytechnic_Stats

The OER Foundation is very supportive of research and analysis to help WikiEducator get better. As an open source project all our data is openly licensed under the default CC-BY-SA license which will ensure that research findings are shared openly.  In the near future we are planning to launch WikiResearcher.org --- an international collaboration for the planning, execution and dissemination of open research.

Lets chat --- sounds interesting.

Cheers
Wayne

Resource Repository

Dear friends,
There is so much on WE. Many contributions are fabulous. Sadly a good
number are incomplete or poorly done. Of course editing them is an
option. I wonder if we could have a WE library for completely done
good works to be featured? or is there such a repository? If one were
to look out for good and complete matter, he/she needn't sift through
incomplete or mediocre work. Please guide as I am only a month old at
WE.
