Re: LiquidThreads installed

That was an escaping issue with the quotation marks, which should be fixed now (that particular comment is probably doomed though :).

Re: LiquidThreads installed

Hi Erik,

Having a lot of fun playing with LQT and have had good feedback from
folk I've been showing in face-to-face situations. Great technology!

In the early days of the development there was discussion about an
archiving feature where a user could write a short summary of the
discussions and then archive the threads. Has this been implemented?

(I understand that the threads on WikiEd have not reached the
specified number of day's for archiving yet.)

Just curious ...

I also posted one or two ideas about navigation - particularly links
back to the main article page to which the thread and/or reply
relates.

See: http://www.wikieducator.org/Thread:Navigation_thoughts_and_behaviour_when_not_logged_in_%281%29

Pretty cool that each post has its own ID for referencing purposes!

Chat to you soon.

Yes, it's set to 14 days right now.

Those are good suggestions. I definitely agree that the granularity of
threads still can make them a bit confusing to navigate.

We'll try to focus on mission-critical bugs for now if that's OK (I
count incorrectly recorded or displayed histories among that), and
getting the code into a maintainable and easy to deploy shape, though
I'll see if we can have a few small navigation improvements. As I
understand we have funding for another two weeks. I'll have a chat
with the Wikia folks to see if they have an interest in deployment and
further improvements.

Re: LiquidThreads installed

Great - so in 14 day's time we get to test the archiving feature.
Given our time frames for wrapping up the project, perhaps we should
temporarily set the archive feature to 7 days to give us a chance to
test this in the WikiEd enviroment?

Yip, we have COL based funding for an additional 2 week's coding work,
then I'm afraid my budget on this project has run out :-(.

I agree that we should prioritise major bugs and getting the history
issues sorted. It would be nice if we can implement minor navigation
improvements. Also, improving the message displayed to users who are
not logged in (see Phsi's comment). I was also thinking that the
message that "You need to be logged in to post to the dissusion" in a
different colour would be helpful.

Looks like I'm developing geek habits being up so late :-).

Chat to you soon.

OK, I'll see what we can do, but we have to prioritize. I'm sure lots
of small requests like this will come in over the next few days, but I
also still expect some major bugs here and there.

For the future of the extension, including its maintainability on
WikiEducator, I consider it essential to separate it into a proper
module (which it currently is not - it's essentially a hacked version
of MediaWiki _with_ a module). Otherwise our code will start getting
out of date quickly, and we'll have a really hard time upgrading
MediaWiki. So I'd like to reserve a week's time for that.

Perhaps you have some contacts to open source developers who could
also help improve the extension in the coming months?

Re: LiquidThreads installed

Agreed -

Separating this into a proper module is a very high priority.
Maintainability is more important than feature tweaks.

Always looking for developers who can improve MW features <smile>.

Online training on basic wiki editing skills, October 9-19

Dear SparkerEd,

I am writing to inform you about the following training opportunity,
and to invite you spread the word at your institution or to nominate
colleagues that would be interested in joining this free online
training on basic wiki editing skills, scheduled to take place from
October 9-19. Exact guidelines will follow to confirmed participants.

This is an online capacity building exercise - so that we can
strengthen local skills and networks for WikiEducator in the Pacific.
The idea is that people will be an Ambassador for WikiEducator by
nominating 2 or more people from your office or local community. Wayne
Mackintosh will facilitate a wiki training using our tutorials from
Vancouver (www.col.org/wmackintosh).

Should you be interested to either join or nominate people to
participate, please send the names and email addresses of at least 2
people in your country (can be more) by latest Friday, October 5, to
me at pschlicht@... so that Wayne can set up the training.

Participants would need to allocate about 30 - 40 minutes per working
day at a time that is convenient to them. Participants will need
connectivity to the Internet for this training.

Please refer to www.wikieducator.org and see http://www.wikieducator.org/Wiki_Pasifika

Kind regards,

Patricia Schlicht

Comment-level history added

LQT now has comment-level history in addition to thread-level history;
this should be a lot more reliable & easy to use since it just ties
into MediaWiki's existing history. The thread-level history is needed
to track things like comment moves and deletions.

There's a bug that writes incorrect attribution data into the
thread-level history; I'm giving this the highest priority right now.
