Some survey findings/reports on Online Education

All Community,

As part of our project in an online course with Venture Lab (Stanford), our team is seeking some Marketing Research findings.

Could someone provide us with the results of any survey on what students/people think of:
  - online (and/or Distance) education
  - Its advantages & disadvantages
 
And also:
  - The challenges of going "open"

Or anything that can help about the things a teaching institution has to consider before launching online learning programs

RIEMAA Golden Jubilee Meet 2013


Dear friends,

We would like to make the formal announcement of the Golden Jubilee Alumni Meet of RIEMAA to be held on 18 and 19 (Saturday and Sunday) of May 2013. Sorry for the delay in the formal announcement as we were waiting for the Karnataka assembly election dates to be finalised. The executive committee have the pleasure in inviting all of you to join this meet to make it a grand success. We do not have the current contact address of all our alumni. However, we are sending post cards to about 12000 of our alumni in the addresses available with the academic section of the Institute. Kindly spread this message among all the alumni in your contacts and invite them for the meet. Prior to this meet RIEMAA in partnership with UNICEF and RIEM is organizing a National Conference on Assessment Practices in Schools from 15 to 17 May 2013 at RIE, Mysore. We have received quite good number of papers. We have short listed 60 papers for presentation.

As announced earlier, we are organising two day alumni meet on 16th and 19th May 2013. We the executive committee of RIEMAA is requesting you to inform all your friends and others who are in contact with you. We are eagerly waiting for your joining to the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Prof. Parvin Sinklair, Director, NCERT is agreed to inaugurate the Golden Jubilee Year meet of RIEMAA on 18th May 2013. Prof. Parvin Sinklair, Director, NCERT wanted to discuss with RIEMAA for academic discussions. Please join in RIEMAA meet to provide your suggestions for quality improvement of school education as well as teacher education. The programme schedule is enclosed as attachment.

This online survey is being conducted to sample some current insights, attitudes, and concerns about massive open online courses (MOOCs) to get a sense of the feasibility and near-term adoption of the offering of MOOCs by various universities and colleges. This will be conducted as a one-time modified electronic Delphi study to capture the insights of practicing faculty and administrators in higher education, particularly those who have been involved with online learning.  

 

The responses may be used in a forthcoming academic publication that is double-blind peer-reviewed if the work passes muster with the editors.  Survey results will be maintained for three years after the end of the survey.  No personally identifiable information is collected in this process. 

 

There is no compensation for participation in this survey.  Participation is wholly voluntary.  Refusal to participate will involve no penalty.  Participants may discontinue participation at any time. 

 

If you have any questions about this research, please contact Dr. Shalin Hai-Jew at shalin-s839y2ZB6lCVc3sceRu5cw@public.gmane.org.  This study was reviewed and approved by the K-State Institutional Review Board.

This survey will be available from May 3 - 31, 2013.  This is a 4-part survey, which will likely take 20 - 25 minutes to complete.

I see that the BlipTV template is being used quite a bit, but are there any alternatives?  Say a video template for Internet Archive, for instance?

The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges was pleased to announce completion of the Open Course Library during a press call today.

 

As promised during the call, the latest Updated Cost Analysis of the Open Course Library from Student PIRGS (Public Interest Research Groups), is now available. Key finding: The Open Course Library has saved students $5.5 million in textbook costs to date, including $2.9 million during the 2012-2013 academic year alone. The vast majority, $5.1 million of these savings are within the Washington community and technical colleges.

The WikiEducator User Page Expo ("UPE" to its friends) is an ongoing event to acknowledge WikiEducator user pages that are particularly informative, innovative, visually appealing, or otherwise just plain clever.

We are very happy to announce that  Benjamin Stewart is the WikiEducator User Page Expo winner for April 2013. Let's learn more about him.

Benjamin Stewart is an EFL teacher educator and researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes in Mexico. He has a great interest in action research for anyone teaching English to students of other languages (TESOL). He maintains an open and ongoing Distance English Language Training (DELT) workshop as well as TESOL Talk. In addition, he also contributes regularly to the Collaborative Understandings website, offers opencourseware, and is an author for Edukwest. He has also been contributing to the world of OERs by gifting his time and effort in assisting with eL4C online workshops, providing guidance to participants. He has delivered numerous talks and conducted many workshops for professional development of teachers. His WikiEducator User Page truly reflects his achievements!

Lets congratulate Benjamin, the WikiArtisan, for being the UPE winner for April 2013!!

Progress towards mobile and responsive design?

Hello! I'm a recent convert to wikieducator. I've decided to switch away from wikiversity because it
simply won't work on most of the mobile devices I've tried. This is a major problem for me, because I'm
trying to develop interactive pages for students to explore DURING lectures and tutorials using
whatever phone/tablet/laptop they bring along. Wikieducator works in that at least content will
display, but it doesn't seem to be optimised for this use (e.g. tailoring display for devices with
different sized screens / aspect ratios). Or am I missing something?

Wikieducator has a reputation for being more innovative than wikiversity. So I ask, what progress has
wikieducator made towards embracing mobile technology and responsive web design?
