Loaning IPods for library tours & security issues

Good Morning!

My library is in the process of creating a virtual tour that we would like to pre-load onto a few IPod Nanos for
students to check out. I've read a couple of interesting articles which discuss the implementation of
such a project. But the one thing I cannot seem to find anything about is if there is a way to lockdown or
protect the IPods while circulating so that students cannot try to add or remove content synced to the
IPod. Having an IPod myself, I am aware that if a student were to try and add content to one of our IPods using
their installed version of ITunes, the unit would have to be formatted to factory settings because it
would already be tied to our library's ITunes software. But I wonder if there is some software option that
would make this process easier on our circulation staff. Additionally, is there a way to sync several
IPods to one computer with each unit having the same content? I'm envisioning several IPods connected to a
USB hub that can sync to the same machine.

Thanks to anyone with experience on this matter who can provide some insight.

Survey: Drupal usage in libraries

*** Please excuse the cross-posting ***

I am collecting information about Drupal usage in Libraries in order to learn about the practices of other
libraries.  Data from this survey will also be used for a poster session at ALA.  Please take a few
minutes to complete the following survey about how your library is using Drupal.

Interactive Mobile Tutorial Apps?

Colleagues/

I am greatly interested in learning of the availability of interactive
mobile tutorial apps.

[I am not interested in tutorials about mobile apps]

I'm particularly interested in Any/All Interactive Mobile Tutorials that
are Educational and/or Library-related,

most particularly those relating to Library Instruction.

BTW: Training Apps Are Also Of Interest As Would Educational Game Apps

Web Cam Service?

Hello--
I haven't looked at streaming web cam servers for several years now and am
once again interested. Could someone recommend a good (by "good" I mean
"cheap") web cam service? I can configure my firewall, so that's not a
problem.

Thanks

user designed web sites / pages

I remember in library school about 5 years ago, I had a professor who
was positive that someday soon, we were all going to be customizing
web pages to our needs and wants. I see the BBC home page now does
this http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/ I can decide if I want or don't want
sports news when I get to this page. Are there any libraries
designing their home pages this way? How difficult or expensive is
this?

RefWorks Announces Launch Of RefMobile

Bethesda, MD, USA (March, 2009) - RefWorks announced the launch of

RefMobile, a new interface that enables students and researchers to

use the RefWorks web-based research management service from anywhere,

via web-enabled mobile phones, smart phones, and personal data

assistants (PDAs).

The RefMobile interface gives users immediate access to the most

commonly used RefWorks functions, including searching their entire

RefWorks databases, viewing references by folders, adding and removing

references from folders, creating new folders, and adding comments to

Notes fields. Users can also efficiently import new references to

their RefWorks account using the new SmartAdd feature.

With SmartAdd, users simply enter basic identifying information for a

publication, such as ISBN number, digital object identifier (DOI)

number, partial title, or author and publication year, and SmartAdd

searches the Internet for the reference and import it to RefWorks.

I thought I'd respond in some depth, from the perspective of a
library-related site that has its share of personalization. I've come
to mistrust it.

First, both personalization and its opposite—single-focus
optimization—will always be with us. But fashions come and go. For a
few years—2003-2006?—personalization was hot, particularly in search.
Companies like Rollyo and Eurekster got a lot of attention, and both
Yahoo and Google added a certain amount of personalization. Interest
has fizzled—the companies above are virtually without traffic--and the
consensus is that Google's personalized search—rolled out in 2005 and
expanded in 2007—has not been a game-changer.

Some arguments against personalization:

1. Features are hard, and personalization is no exception. If you're
going to have it, it's best if it's "baked into" your algorithms,
schemas, designs and such from day one. You don't want to add it
later.

2. In my experience, the vast majority of people don't want to
