Card number for fixed ordering

Hi Bruno,

I noticed that whenever I accidentally hit the "sort" for some field in
the CardTable, the card order would get all messed up when I saved the .jml.

For the purpose of studying (not yet learning) the cards, I would like
to keep them ordered according to a logical pedagogical or topical flow.

The only way I can think of doing this is to introduce a unique "card
number" for each card.

What do you think?

Regards
Jonathan

Great usability improvement already, anybody still wants better PDF output?

Hi Riad,

Great usability improvements in the trunk!

I was gonna do a PDF output that shows longer answers (with short
questions), as I mentioned on the "Open Discussion" forum:

"Specifically, I would like to have jMemorize output each card to a
4-cell table (2 by 2). The left column will just display "Question" and
"Answer". The right column displays the question (top) and answer (bottom)."

But your CardPanel's use of JSplitPane may make it unnecessary for that
PDF output. Whenever I want to study (not learn yet) the cards, I can
now reduce the front-side (Question) size, and increase the flip-side
size. The flip-side contains short answers in bold, plus long
explanatory texts.

I'll still want to do the PDF output at some point. Good to carry around
an easy print-out of the cards to study.

Have you planned anything on J2ME midlets yet?

Regards
Jonathan

jMemorize contribution

Hi Riad,

Hi all,

Thanks for the excellent program. I've been using it for a while for learning foreing languages, and now I would like to contribute as a developer.
I downloaded the trunk sources from SVN repository and built the project.
Running tests, I noticed some of them failed. The reason was that NetBeans doesn't change current directory to project root before running unittests.
I made small changes to get rid of current directory dependency in unittests.
How can I submit the patch?

Can you please give me write access to repository, or recommend another way?
I can send a patch as an attachment if needed.

Thanks,
Alexey.

Building 1.3.x branches or trunk

Hello, everyone.

I just love jMemorize and I really want to add pronunciation feature to the program.
I started playing around with the code, but I was only able to compiling
release_1.2.3. Either release_1.3.x or trunk release does not compile properly
even after successfully running build.xml.

This is the error that I'm getting when I compile release_1.3.x or trunk release
Windows Popup:
Could not find the main class: jmemorize.core.Main. Program will exit.

Console:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jmemorize/core/Main

I just can't figure out how to fix this error. Does anyone know? Any help would be great.

Thanks.

IDEs

Hi all,

I would like to start developing jMemorize. I am not a professional developer but I have been using this application for two weeks and I have to say that I like it very much. I would like to add a new feature (Its about connecting to the database and storing cards over there) but I do not know how to start. I downloaded files from SVN but I do not know how to build those sources. I am more familiar to Netbeans. Is there a possibility to develop jMemorize also with this IDE?

regards,
Krzysztof

Copy and paste images ?

Hi,

I looked for a java application managing flashcards recently because I
thought it could be useful for my students (and for that needed a
multiplatform application) and it looks like jMemorize could be my
best bet. (I had a look at pauker too, but unless I am misstaken, it
can't include images in cards so I discarded it...)

Teaching math, most of my cards will include formulas that I want to
create with LatexIt. The process of composing a formula with latexit,
save it as a bitmap (png) then import it into jMemorize is a rather
painful and time consuming task. The most common way to use LatexIt is
to copy and paste.

So would pasting an image (in a bitmap format such as .png) be doable
in a future version of jMemorize ?

(Unfortunately, I would know how to do it in cocoa/objective-c
development, but I'm afraid I know about nothing as far as java
development goes...)

Regards,

Pierre-Henri

P.S. : if I am to use jMemorize in a regular basis, I'll work on the
french localization which is rather incomplete it seems...

Tow new features and a question

Deal all,

I use this software and It is excellent, I try to add some features that fits my needs and I think they maybe useful to all. these features are:

1. Add a new learn button (a red one) to automatically start learning of all expired cards.
2. Add new options to find dialog to find cards that are hard to learn. you can find cards that learn count or failed count is greater than a number.

Because I do not have much time now, I add these features with hurry and they are not coded very well, but I want to polish codes and add them to main repository.
currently I have one problem, because I am a C++ programmer and a basic java programmer (with good programming skills, don't worry), I do not find a good tools to edit GUI of this project and try to add UI to find dialog by hand, but failed (there was some success, but no time to try more).
There are some other features in mind that I will add them as soon as possible.

Thank you.

More interval options

Hello,

I've been using jMemorize for a while, and so far, it's been exactly
what I've needed. So first of all, thanks to those of you who made it
possible!

Now then, I've been wondering about a few things as I've been working
through my flashcards. First, I tend to practice my cards at low
intervals and for long periods of time (probably for the forseeable
future), and as such, I have many decks of cards lined up (I've hit up
to Deck 22 or so in about a month and a half). Just to make sure, how
many decks can the program "handle"? I would think that it would be
arbitrary, but I wanted to make sure, as the default settings for the
intervals and the number of decks you can specify intervals for seem to
suggest that normal usage shouldn't go too far past 10.

Following on that note, I would like to see a way to further define
intervals past Deck 10. I understand that getting that into the GUI
might be a bit awkward (the way it is now, anyway), but at the very
least we could have a config file that lets advanced users specify
however many deck intervals they want. This, at the very least, makes it
easy on everyone, as such a system would be trivial to implement
(assuming that way the code is structured currently isn't making
assumptions such as intervals past Deck 10 aren't possible or whatever),
and the feature would be there for those who need it and would be
willing to dig in a bit.

I may actually at some point look into writing this myself (if at that
time it hasn't been done yet), but right now is a very busy time for me,
so I'm not sure as to whether I'd have the time. Thought I'd bring it up
though at least.

Again, thanks for the wonderful piece of software!

new developer trying to build

Hey everyone,

I'm relatively new to this project but I've been using jMemorize for a few months now and love it. I'd love to start becoming involved with the development effort but first I have to get a build working. I am on Mac OS 10.4, using Eclipse 3.3.0 with Java 1.5. The following is exactly what I've done:

Using the subclipse plugin, I checked out trunk>jmemorize from the svn repo as a new project

Noticing there was an ant buildfile, I went to properties>builders

I noticed noticed two builders already in use:
    Java Builder
    Missing building (com.atlassw.tools.eclipse.checkstyle.CheckstyleBuilder)

I disabled both and created a new ant builder
I used build.xml as the buildfile and the root folder I checked out (jMemorize) as the base directory

I went to Project>Build Project and got a nice successful build in the console (including Checkstyle stuff)

I went to src>jmemorize>core>Main.java, tried to run as java application and got the error "selection does not contain a main type", even though this file definitiely does have a psvm method.

Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks for your help,

Chris
