Bookstore Browsing Blues

Leila Lalami writes about one of her favorite bookstore in Rabat, with a

MELANETters,

Especially for those of you who were unable to attend the MELA meeting, the recipient of this year's
Partington Award was Jonathan Rodgers of University of Michigan. Details are in the press release, which
has been circulated to various library associations in the US and abroad, and should be likewise posted in
the MELA Notepad blog site.

Congratulations to Jonathan!

RE: MELA 2009 Partington Award Winner

The updated info about the Partington Award is now on the MELA website, as is a .pdf of the press release (on
the "past winners" page).

An abridged version of the press release is visible on MELA Notepad
(http://mela.us/mela_notepad/2009/12/ ), with a link back to the page listing past winners.

I have completely revamped the structure of these pages so if you have bookmarked any of them, you'll need to
re-navigate from http://www.mela.us

From the Chronicle: Monk saves threatened manuscripts

Dear friends,

A fascinating article from this morning’s “Academe Today” (the daily news update of the Chronicle of Higher Education):

http://chronicle.com/article/A-Monk-Saves-Threatened/49283/?sid=at&utm_source=at&utm_medium=en

A Benedectine monk's project to digitize early Christian manuscripts, particularly from Middle Eastern countries.

Enjoy!

Robin

Partington Award

Dear MELA colleagues and members of the Partington Award Committee:

I was profoundly honored at the November 2009 MELA meeting by being selected to receive the David H.
Partington Award. The surprise of being so recognized left me unable to express adequately the honor I
felt and my gratitude to the MELA membership and the Committee. To the sense of honor I should add also
humility at my inclusion in the august company of our previous honorees and among so many others in MELA
also deserving of such this honor.

Kind regards,

Jonathan Rodgers
