Newspaper holdings, Ittihad al-sha'b

Melanetters,
I have submitted a proposal to MEMP to film the newspaper Ittihad
al-Sha'b from Baghdad. Our holdings are incomplete and would like to
track down access to the missing issues. I have searched WorldCat and
OACIS and find no other listing beyond our own. Many institutions do
not catalog or report newspaper titles they hold and I am hoping that
others may secretly own copies. If you have holdings, or know of where
some are stashed, please contact me off list and I can let you know
which issues are lacking.
John

Re: Newspaper holdings, Ittihad al-sha'b

I remember that the former Lenin Library in Moscow, Russia had
extensive holdings of early Iraqi newspapers.

Puzzling questions

Fellow MELAnetters,
I have a couple of ambitious students wanting information that may not
be available. One wants to find the parliamentary voting records from
Kuwait and Bahrain. Are these published anywhere, if so, are they
available at any of your libraries. The other wants GIS information on
locations of ethnic groups from North Africa to Iran, and Turkey to the
Arabian Penninsula. The time period is from 1918-present. He then
wants to overlay this on the current political boundaries of the
territories mentioned. Does anyone possess this information?
John

Seeking advice in planning MELA 2009 annual program

Dear MELA Members,

Although the 2009 MELA annual program in Boston, MA, is still many months away, as Program Chair, I would like to seek your advice and help in the following two areas.

1) Recruitment of Program Committee members.  Since the program will take place in Boston, MA, it would be very helpful to have MELA members in that area to join the Committee.  I would also like to emphasize that all members are welcome to join.  Your help will be essential to the success of our program.

2) Seeking ideas for the annual program.

Please be so kind as to contact me off list at adia-+hwoy1Po9Oc@public.gmane.org.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you.

Cordially,

Anchi Hoh
