I am trying to find the item listed below, to be borrowed, filmed, or
photocopied for a graduate student at Stanford University, who needs it for
his dissertation. The New York Public Library and the British Library are
reported as holding libraries (the record copied below is from the BL's
on-line catalog). However, the NYPL copy cannot be found and the British
Library will not reproduce more than 10 pages because the work falls within
a 120-year period of exclusion, unless we can provide written authorization
from the holder of copyright (or prove that the author or authors died more
than 70 years ago).

The work is:

>Author: TURKEY Departments of State and Public Institutions
           Sihhat ve Içtimai Muavenit Vekâleti
>Title: Rapport de la Commission d'inspection des lazarets sur le
lazaret de Beyrouth. Présenté au Conseil supérieur de santé le
9 octobre 1906. [With plates, including plans.]
>Publisher: pp. 40. iii. Constantinople, 1906. fol.

This work has Shelfmark: S.Q.150 in the British Library.

Any information about holdings of this work and/or suggestions of possible
locations would be greatly appreciated. Please note that I have searched
RLIN, OCLC/World, the pre-56 NUC, and the web-based catalogs of the British
Library and Milli Kutuphane.

Please reply to me, not to the list.

vendors for the arab world

Greetings from Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. I hope you are
well well. UAE University is in the process of selecting vendors
for Arabic language materials. The university's contract
requirements are rather strict and require us to have bids from
3-4 vendors for each country.

I am wondering if MELA members would be willing to write to
me privately off the list and give me names of vendors they can
recommend. Those vendors which have already been in contact
with our Acquisitions Division are all still being considered.

Thanks!

MESA annual meeting 2003, Anchorage, Alaska?

MELA members,

MESA needs some input and comment on the plan for the 2003
MESA now scheduled for Anchorage, Alaska. They need to know if
the location and expense of getting to the location would be
a deterent for you attending the meetings there. MESA already
has a financial committment to hold the meetings there, but, if
the members and exhibitors do not show up, they stand to loose even
more money. Please comment as soon as possible so that MELA
can weigh in on this decision before the April MESA
board meeting.

Re: MESA annual meeting 2003, Anchorage, Alaska?

An unconscionable decision to hold the meeting in Ankorage unless you
can get everyone to meetin in Seattle and charter a flight the rest
of the way. Far too expensive for air trave.

Re: MESA annual meeting 2003, Anchorage, Alaska?

Dear MELA members,

I just asked the woman on my staff who lived in Alaska
what it might be like in Anchorage in late November.
"Nowhere I'd want to be," is what she replied. It can be
windy, cold, damp and even snowy, apparently. Not quite
the balmy weather we experienced in Washington D.C. last
year! Most Northwesterners that I know who visit Alaska
do so during the summer - the cruise ships are a popular
way of going there at that time.

Re: MESA annual meeting 2003, Anchorage, Alaska?

Anything outside of the lower 48 is going to be prohibitive in cost, not
mention the distance. Please add my vote to a "No" for this site.

In case MESA is in a state of mind to welcome suggestions, how about
Atlanta? It is become highly internationalized, with several excellent
sites that would hold MESA-type activities, if not bigger. All major
airlines land at Altanta Airport, and for those coming from overseas
there are non-stop flights from Europe and the Far East.

MESA in Alaska, comment

Hikmat, and all,

I did omit one other piece of information. MESA would then look for
another location in the West, e.g. Denver.
