New journal (fwd)

(Forwarded from H-TURK)

In 1997, the Turkish Society for Musicology launched a new academic journal
designed to cater for the increasing interest in musicology. Published four
times a year, the International Journal of Music in Turkey (IJMT) provides
a much-needed forum and reference point for musicology. Based in Istanbul,
IJMT adopts a comprehensive perspective to music in Turkey.

The journal covers all aspects of music and all styles and genres including
traditional Turkish art music, folk music, popular music, and contemporary
music in Turkey. New publications in the field are surveyed and expert
reviews of the most important works are included.

The International Journal of Music In Turkey is the official publication
of the Turkish Society for Musicology. It is published quarterly (Winter,
Spring, Summer and Fall) for the Turkish Society for Musicology by the
Boyut Publishing Group.

IJMT seeks to establish an international network of scholars committed to
research on music in Turkey and encourage contributions from intellectuals
both inside and outside the academy. IJMT welcomes articles, essays, and book,
recording and film/video reviews. Only manuscripts in English are accepted.
Letters to the editor about current news, books, recordings, and films/videos
on Turkish music are also welcome.

IJMT is supported by an international editorial board with wide-ranging
interests and expertise. Members of the Editorial Board are: Filiz Ali,
Sehvar Besiroglu, Yildiray Erdener, Tugrul Gogus, Robert Labaree, Ursula
Reinhard, Martin Stokes, Feza Tansug, and Cem Taylan.

Index Islamicus on CD-ROM

I have followed the discussion among our European colleagues on
lis-middle-east, about the impending publication of Index Islamicus on
CD-ROM, with a certain amount of bemusement, since I have seen no
announcements from the publisher. On 31 March, Geoffrey Roper posted a
long message summing up all information known to date, including in it
names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of the publisher and
distributors. I contacted the publishers and copy relevant portions of
their response below. I also copy a message received today on
lis-middle-east relating to pricing and frequency.

Re: Index Islamicus on CD-ROM

Ed,
Just a public thanks to you for gathering this information. I've had
several people asking periodically what was up in regard to this product,
but haven't had time to follow up. It's a much anticipated product.
Looks as if it will go on next year's budget. Thanks for all of us!

Lists of commercial serial titles received in LC/Cairo

MELANET Colleagues:

Yesterday LC/Cairo mailed to MECAP participants lists of all active
commercial serials received in Cairo from Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and
Mauritania. Although we are not receiving any serials from Algeria at this
time, we did include a list of titles we used to receive.

We have also mailed the list of active commercial serials received from
Sudan.

Please note that government publications available commercially are
included in these lists, although LC receives them as part of our exchange
programs.

These lists have also been sent to non-MECAP participants who requested
copies of our earlier mailing, viz., titles from the Fertile Crescent.

We hope to have the lists covering the Arabian Peninsula in the mail to you
within the next month,
followed by those for Turkey and finally, Egypt.

In response to requests we have received, we will issue a list of
non-commercial titles received for LC as part of our exchange programs, the
final stage of this exercise.

official Iranian gazette

Dear friends,

One of my patrons, Bill Hanaway, is after an item that appeared in the
August 12, 1970 issue of something identified to him only as "the official
Iranian government newspaper." I think the title wanted is _Ruznamah-i
rasmi-i kishvar-i shahanshahi-i Iran_, which I see from RLIN is not widely
held. Do any of you own this volume of this title, either in hardcopy or
microform, and if you do, would you be willing to loan it, or to accept a
photocopy request for the part of it that Bill needs?
