I wonder if anyone on this list can help me locate a copy of the
following: Makhtutat tafsir al-ahlam fi dar saddam li-l-makhtutat, by
Usama Nasir al-Naqshabandi, in al-Mawrid 20 ii (1991). According to the
folks at interlibrary loan here at Duke Univ. this Baghdad series is
present in American libraries only up to 1991.

I desperately need a copy of this article and would gladly cover
reproduction and shipping expenses.

I found this article about a Lebanese manuscript collection at risk by Kinda
Jayoush, on the Leb-Net Daily Digest, Number 542, Wednesday, May 17th
1995, article. It helps to put our "young" collections in perspective.

Yunus Emre

Here's a question for Turkish studies experts - and since it will
probably look stupid to you, I guess I just have to say I'm not an expert!

What language did Yunus Emre write in? Since he died around 1320, it
seems to me it's a little too early for his language to be what we
consider to be Ottoman. And if it's not Ottoman, what is its language
code in a cataloging record?

Thanks,

Cathy Rockwell

Re: Yunus Emre

Cathy -- The technical term is Early Anatolian Turkish (which is
actually closer to Ottoman Turkish than Chaucer's Middle English
is to Shakespeare's tongue). In Yunus's day, the Ottomans were still
just one of several emirates in Anatolia and not the dominant power
they would become by the end of the 14th century. But for purposes of
cataloging, I'd suggest sticking with the language code for Ottoman:
