(GRE Success! ) File - Monthly Reminder

Hello,

This is to remind you that you are still a member of GRESUCCESS, a group that aspires to help people, and dispel rumors regarding GRE, TOEFL, TSE, and other standardized tests, as well as, the entire application process in general. The group is also attempting to broaden its arms with quaint research on general aspects and observations of studying abroad. Please feel free to mail your concerns to the group by emailing to gre-success-hHKSG33TihhbjbujkaE4pw@public.gmane.org

1. If you have any private queries, or if you are shy of asking a question in front of hundreds of people, let me re - assure you that you are entering a group of cultured people who will not laugh, disapprove or hold you in disdain. If still, you are apprehensive, please mail your queries to me at yamanoor-/E1597aS9LQAvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org

2. Kindly try to make maximum use of the group by accessing and contributing to the links, database, files, photos and calendar sections of the group. Please be discreet. I shall remove any offensive material. Kindly add to any of the relevant tables in the database. Please upload files that you think will be useful for the members in the group. Kindly check for, and abstain from adding too large, or virus loaded files. Please upload any photographs of yours that you would wish to share with us (This shall be subject to scrutiny though..flimsy bikinis and flashy pets are fine...but I still insist on cross checking! :)). Also, please upload any important deadlines that you think might benefit the group. It is also not a bad idea to put up your birth date, test date etc on the calendar. This is a group full of fun loving people and we would like to share your joy!

3. Unfortunately, our group does not have the rights to use the polls section. I don't know how that came into existence. Kindly bear with me. We shall use free tools available on the internet for the same.

4. Please try to visit my home page http://www.yamanoor.com/gre/ to take advantage of the resources linked, that shall help you in your entire application process.

5. Also kindly note, I strongly discourage any personal messages or communications across the group. I will be moderating without exception, any messages that are either low in utility, or are sensitive, racial, or disapprovable in any manner.

6. It is my earnest request that you tell more friends about the group so that we can help serve a larger group of interested people. Also, if you have web pages, kindly consider using the promotion tools to make the process of subscribing easier for your visitors.

7. Do mail in more suggestions as and when you wish and think it is necessary. Every word is listened to.

8. A final note, as you see, the group's objective is to not only help and provide suggestions, it is also to dispel all sorts of rumors about the process that keep cropping up now and then. So, it is upto you to ask as many questions as you can.

Thanks for being a part of the movement.

Good Luck

Srihari

Re: (GRE Success! ) Please, Help me to choose University

Agreed. It is best to retake GRE and improve your score. A BS is a must in order to get an admit in a decent graduate school.

Raghu has said it all. Without a BS and a much better GRE score, you are unnecessarily ruining what graduate school would do for you.

*NEVER* introduce yourself this way. "My self Vivek" is wrong on many
levels. Say "I am Vivek" or "My name is Vivek."

Good for you that you could get a Green card. Most of us have to go
through a lot to get that status.

You should have finished the PGDCA, but hindsight is a useless thing,
so let's see what we can do with what we have.

Your GRE scores are very low, period. Quite difficult to go anywhere
worthwhile with these scores.

From what you have written here, my understanding is that you have
completed the requirements for "science background in 12th grade."
You are, from the way I see it, now fit to start BS in Computer
Science.

Good for you. TOEFL is annoying and is of little discernible use.

All valid and expected explanations for rejection.

I am not sure if that one semester of PGDCA is going to mean anything
so far as applying to US universities goes. It is probably safer for
you not to talk about that one semester. I don't think it will work
in your favour -- it is something that you started, but did not
finish. Get my drift?

Is this equivalent to a degree of some sort, or is it more like a certification?

> GRE 900/1600 Math:650 and Verbal:250

Poor scores. If you are serious about applying to MS, you definitely
want to plan to do the GRE again and get 1300 or thereabouts.

> TOEFL (not requirement anymore because of completed ESL)
>

I do not know about these universities. I have been on this group
since 2007 and this is the first time I am hearing about these
universities.

> OR, I just don't want to west my time so pick one of this right now and should I try to apply some other good university in Fall 2011?
>

I think picking one of these universities and going ahead would be a
waste of time, not the other way around.

> Or, do you have any other suggestion that what should I do now to do complete MS Computer Science?
>

Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to do a BS now? Most of the
well-known universities are likely going to require more from you than
your current profile to give you an admit for MS. On the other hand,
you might stand a good chance for a BS admit. A BS from a well-known
university is going to get you ahead more than an MS from some obscure
school.

Raghu

Hi All,

I am one of the member of the yahoo groups. I would like to Know list of Universities offer MIS program? And also would like to know that for MIS course required only TOEFL or TOefl and GRE or TOEFL /GRE/ GMAT all the three? which are the scores do they required to offer MIS course?

When I wrote for TOEFL i applied for the Computer science Program if the university accepts and gives me I -20 can I change from Computer sciencecourse to MIS? Will my I - 20 vaild for MIS too??

My TOEFL score - 70 and GRE - 970 suggest the list of Universities which accepts for MIS for this score. This Toefl and GRe scores are they sufficient to apply for MIS universites or do i have to write GMAT or something else?

After completing my undergraduate studies from INDIA, I plan to do a higher degree in Software Engineering/Computer Science from a good US/UK university. Now as most of the US universities ask for a 4 year Bachelor's degree for admissions to their Graduate courses, I'm primarily focusing on the UK universities only. But the UK Master's degree is of 12 months duration (full time) and I'm unsure whether the degree is globally accepted or not. Please help me clarify this small doubt of mine. Also, please tell me about the post-master's career prospects for International students in the UK.
>

<at> srihari : Thanks a lot for clarifying my doubt. There are several reasons why I'm focusing on the UK. 1) My undergraduate degree - I'm pursuing a 3yr Bachelor of Science degree. So that makes me ineligible for postgraduate study in the US, right after the completion of my undergrad studies in India. 2) In UK the Master's degree is of '12 months' duration. So after completing my Master's there, I will have exactly 4years of education after 10+2 (10+2+4) and will become eligible for admissions and/or employment in the US. 3) Many pass-out's of my college are currently pursuing their Master's degree in UK, and many have secured admission this year also. 4) I have relatives in UK. These are basically the four main reasons why I'm concentrating on UK.

(GRE Success! ) Fw: Oxford Dictionaries Online: Word Of The Day

Hello Everyone,

We have a low traffic this month, and yes, I apologize in advance to the emails I haven't replied yet. I have a few commitments and deadlines I am working on, on top of which I have been rendered sick. Moving on...

Nyctalopia - is a great example of a word that you don't have to know...you could break it down with etymology.

opia - this is the easier root; think myopia for example.

Nyc - would be night..and al, alos would be without or different. I concur, alaos would be hard to know, but this is also why I stress on at least familiarizing yourself with another language. For example, alguna in Spanish means another...

In any case, keep thinking of etymology, especially when you come across a completely new word. At first it will look like a game of chance, then an art and then a science. By the time you get ready for your GRE, you will settle for "somewhere between a science and an art".

End of rant,

Good Luck!
