(GRE Success! ) File - Monthly Reminder

Hello,

This is to remind you that you are still a member of GRESUCCESS, a group that aspires to help people, and
dispel rumors regarding GRE, TOEFL, TSE, and other standardized tests, as well as, the entire
application process in general. The group is also attempting to broaden its arms with quaint research on
general aspects and observations of studying abroad. Please feel free to mail your concerns to the group
by emailing to gresuccess@...

1. If you have any private queries, or if you are shy of asking a question in front of hundreds of people, let me
re - assure you that you are entering a group of cultured people who will not laugh, disapprove or hold you in
disdain. If still, you are apprehensive, please mail your queries to me at yamanoor@...

2. Kindly try to make maximum use of the group by accessing and contributing to the links, database, files,
photos and calendar sections of the group. Please be discreet. I shall remove any offensive material.
Kindly add to any of the relevant tables in the database. Please upload files that you think will be useful
for the members in the group. Kindly check for, and abstain from adding too large, or virus loaded files.
Please upload any photographs of yours that you would wish to share with us (This shall be subject to
scrutiny though..flimsy bikinis and flashy pets are fine...but I still insist on cross checking! :)).
Also, please upload any important deadlines that you think might benefit the group. It is also not a bad
idea to put up your birth date, test date etc on the calendar. This is a group full of fun loving people and we
would like to share your joy!

3. Unfortunately, our group does not have the rights to use the polls section. I don't know how that came into
existence. Kindly bear with me. We shall use free tools available on the internet for the same.

4. Please try to visit my home page http://www.geocities.com/yamanoor to take advantage of the resources
linked, that shall help you in your entire application process.

5. Also kindly note, I strongly discourage any personal messages or communications across the group. I

(GRE Success! ) Transcripts

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me the best and optimum way to get transcripts especially when ur colleges are in far off cities.

If the Registrar signs alongwith his stamp on the photocopy of the Marksheet and Certificates, does that satisfy US University requirements.

Thanks in advance.

Re: (GRE Success! ) Transcripts

hi dear
as per my knowledge u've 2 go 2 the college or uni. where u finished ur grad. 2 make the transcripts either on ur college or uni letterhead as per the US uni requirement.
i dont think that simply the sign & stamp of the registrar on the xerox marksheet will work b'coz there is a specific format of transcript in which there is a lot of info like the no. of sessions u attended for the various subjects, practicals; system of distribution of grades/status(distinction, pass, fail) depending upon the percentage etc. which is nowhere mentioned on the marksheet.
few of my friends went out of town 2 make their transcripts as they had studied in ouside universities.
still u can ask the US uni. officials 2 whom u r sending the app. whether they wud accept the xerox marksheet with registrar's sign & stamp.
hope this answers. bye & good luk.

(GRE Success! ) General Transcript Advice

Apart from basic engineer's reply (The one whom we shall not name! - just kidding), most schools are okay when they just mention - sealed transcripts. Others, like he/she pointed out, will need more detials. Depending upon the school, you will have to add to your transcripts.

Now, I dont know which school you are graduating from, usually, universities/autonomous institutions have a procedure. Most colleges in India know people go abroad for higher education, so some even sell special transcript covers, and charge a fee to do the transcription.

They are photocopies of your marksheets which are signed, sealed, and signed over on the flap. The security, and the procedures involved vary greatly, but are not really hard or untraceable.

What you must avoid is subliminal rumors that suggest wierd tantric proceedings, which means, approach your college, and university directly and find out how they do it. Also, find out from the schools you wish to apply to, what they need.

Time and organization are of the essence. I am not trying to scare you, but it is easy to just have a clean piece of paper which clearly states how many copies each school wants, what addresses should they be sent to, how long it takes your university to provide you the transcripts and mark everything on the calendar and get them done at the earliest.

Please, have more copies than needed in hand, as universities have the habit of claiming they never arrived, or simply, were lost. It is your responsibility to take care of the situation, so prepare in advance.

Here is a sample of what I would do:

Page 1:

My College's Procedure for Transcript

Who does it:

Do I provide the envelopes:

Will they be signed and sealed before I get them, or will I need to help with sealing:

Where are my marksheets, how many will I have, when will I being photocopying them (preferably, asap)

Where will I purchase envelopes if I have to?

Any other details: quirks, phone numbers etc? (I say do not believe rumors, but be cautious and prepare for the worst case situation)

Page 2:

What are the schools I am applying to?

School 1:

No. of Copies:

Addressed to:

Should reach by:

If so, send by:

Special requirements:

Where will I get the requirements completed?

Repeat this for all the schools, add the total quantity, have 3 or 4 more in hand.

Also, some colleges refuse to ratify school mark certificates (secondary, high school). It is both ironic and idiotic. The college wouldn't admit you without verifying these documents, but wont re - verify them for you! There is no need for such information, but some schools, if I remember such as Austin want to know what you did from kindergarden. So you can get them notarized or signed by your school people instead. Find out which is convenient and proceed.

Good Luck,

Srihari

to do mistakes at regular intervals now makes me to
clarify certain things...
1. regarding the transcripts:
i have got it sealed...but in 2 colleges they have
got something like transcript request form, which i
haven't attatched with it...b'coz here in India we don
have to go through such procedures...do i worry about

2. regarding recommendation form:
in one of the colleges, they have separate
recommendation forms for international and domestic
students..the only difference anyway is that they have
a separate space for social security number...i have
got my recommendation letter sealed n i have used this
domestic student's form in which i left the space for
entering the social security number blank...shud i
bother to get it in the intrnational student's
form..or shall i continiue applying as the information
in both the forms r the same n i have furnished all

Re: (GRE Success! ) hi everybody

No, you are cool on both ends. You really don't have to worry on the transcript request forms. Many people don't attach them. What's important are the transcripts.

Using the domestic student form is cool.

Its good to clarify. Don't worry. Also, if it still nags a corner of your mind, write to the admissions people. But given the overflow of requests, don't expect replies fast.

Good Luck,

Srihari

Re: (GRE Success! ) General Transcript Advice

Hi Srihari,

You are always a great help. Thanks for the detailed reply. I was just curious that do we need to send the transcripts of Class 10th and Class 12th - or we can just ignore them and send only Undergrad and Grad transcripts.

Thanks

Re: (GRE Success! ) General Transcript Advice

Many schools ask for them, I wouldn't ignore them. It may cause unwanted delays.

(GRE Success! ) MBA in US

hi
I heard about a rule thats planned to be implemented stating that international students with a minimum of five years exp only can do a MBA in US. Is it true and if when is it going to be implemented??
And is 2 yrs exp enough to do a MBA in US?

(GRE Success! ) Wild Story: MBA in US

I am sorry you have become the victim of a rumor about the MBA thing. No one proposes such a law. To whose advantage would such law be? More international students mean more money for the schools, and the government won't interfere with admission criteria.

You must stay away from such rumors.

That said, this is a personal opinion, 2 years are not enough. That's why the programs in India lack any fervor. You are better off with 5 or more years of experience, when you have seen enough of the industry to compete in class etc...

Again, based on personal observation, people with 2 years or under 5 years experience sometimes find it difficult to get admission in good ranked schools.

So weigh in on your options!

Good Luck,

Srihari
