BioOne again

Hello, friends, I've been receiving reports of BioOne off-campus access problems again.  Apparently, earlier this week, they attempted to introduce an new version of their web site.  Apparently, they took the new site down and restored the old one, but have left authentication problems in the wake.

When my off-campus users try to download or display a pdf, they are told they don't have permission to access the resource.  Anyone else seen or heard of this problem?

America's Newspaper Connectivity Problem

Hello:

We at Cornell University are having a problem connecting to the resource
America;s Newspapers via EZproxy.

When someone tries to connect via EZproxy, they are asked to log in ,and if
they do not they get a message that their IP is not part of the accepted
IP's. The IP listed is NOT one used by our EZproxy server.

Our configuration is:
Title Access Newsbank
URL http://infoweb.newsbank.com
Domain infoweb.newsbank.com

The URL we are trying to access is:

http://infoweb.newsbank.com/cgi-bin/welcome/lookup.pl/?db=NEWSBANK&newview=yes&s_sources=location/

Has anyone successfully connected to this?

Thank you in advance!

Limiting number of users

All,

Is there away to limit the number of simulaneous users to a
specific resource? Maybe a switch in the cfg file? Thanks for
your help.

Problem with CISTI Source

Hi:

The University of Calgary is currently experiencing problem with CISTI
Source not recognizing our institution using IP recognition via
Ezproxy. When connecting up to CISTI using Ezproxy our users are taken
to a general login screen (see below).

Our correct Web page is supposed to look like this:

This problem started on late Thursday afternoon.

When I strip of the ezproxy information out of the URL I am able to
access the correct screen. CISTI is doing IP recognition based on 7
UofC IP addresses (two of which are our primary and backup Ezproxy
servers) and I know the reason that I am getting into the correct site
is because one of the IP addresses that CISTI is recognizing is that of
my PC. I have also verified that Ezproxy is sending the correct
information for access CISTI from our ezproxy.cfg file via the "U"
parameter

T SWETSCAN (CISTI Source)
U
http://source.cisti.nrc.ca/WebZ/Login?sessionid=0:next=startscreen:bad=csstyle/html/authofail.html:autho=:password=

H ec101.cisti.nrc.ca
D cisti.nrc.ca

The only correction that CISTI advises is that the URL identified under
the "H" parameter is no longer used. Could this be interfering with
accessing CISTI?

Any ideas would be welcome.

EZproxy does not support this at present. I've never quite figured out
the appropriate heuristic for implmenenting this type of control. I'm
open to extending EZproxy to support it. My assumption has always been
that a time limit and user limit would go in ezproxy.cfg, allowing
something like "allow 10 users, with a 5 minute inactivity timeout". I've
made similar assumptions like no waiting list, but rather if there is a
seat open, or if there is a seat and the person holding it has timed out,
then you can get in, but otherwise, you get a "sorry, try back later"
message.

Does anyone have suggestions regarding how they would like to see
this work?

Chris

Re: Limiting number of users

This sounds like an excellent add on to an already wonderful product.

I am curious, however, as to why its necessary... Don't most online
resources that limit access to a certain number of X concurrent users
generally give a message along the lines of "All seats are currently being
used. Try back later" if a patron hits that resource as the (X+1) user?

Re: Limiting number of users

Hi,

One reason would be that the Library could then control what the "sorry, try back later" message is for all
resources instead
of having numerous different, vendor-specific messages. Webspirs, for example, gives a very cryptic
message and default
browser behavior that causes no end of confusion.

Re: Limiting number of users

agree 100%
ezproxy is a wonderful product free of "creeping featurism" and it
doesn't need this type of restriction that is already managed by resource
providers.
