Expand tab

Is there a way to expand the tab in space ?
In vim there is the command "set expandtab"

I install M3 yzis (I create a package) in solaris 8 and use it into kdevelop.
I would like to have a different syntax highlight with a white backgound like the 
others editors like gvim or kate. Another important feature needed is to have the possibility to expand the
tab to spaces (better from menu like the configuration of embedded editor of kdevelop).
