Help, please - DITA Topic in XXE has no 'Topic' Menu

Hi Hussein,

Some of my colleagues are not seeing the ‘Topic’ menu for a valid DITA Topic in XXE – they get a greyed-out ‘XML’ menu.

Everything is fine on my laptop, and the configuration files should be essentially the same between the different machines.

What configuration differences (or something else) might cause this? I’ve run out of ideas...

Thanks

My answer assumes that you and your colleagues all use our stock DITA
configurations. If this not the case, then sorry but I cannot help you.

If this is the case, please tell your colleague to send me one of the
DITA topics causing this problem and also tell her/him to send me
(mailto:hussein <at> xmlmind.com) a capture of her/his working environment.

In order to capture one's working environment:

[1] Select menu item "Help|About XMLmind XML Editor" by *shift*-clicking
on "About XMLmind XML Editor".

[2] Open a new file in a text editor.

[3] Press Ctrl-V to copy the contents of the clipboard.

[4] Save the text file to disk and send it to me
(mailto:hussein <at> xmlmind.com).

[1] Please explicitly select the tbody.

[2] Select menu item Edit|Insert *Before* (or press Ctrl-H)

[3] Select or type "colspec" in the Edit tool.

See attached screenshot.

If your informaltable had a thead, you should have selected the thead
instead of the tbody. In a nutshell, select the right element within the
table and then use "Insert Before".

Re: Help, please - DITA Topic in XXE has no 'Topic' Menu

Sorry, Hussein, once I woke up I found the reason:
The other custom .xxe file did not include the standard xxe-config:dita/topic.xxe (mine did).
It's a while since I set this up...

Thanks for your quick response.

/Roy

Dita editing UI question

Hi,

Do you have any plans that will make it possible to:

- Have a ditamap permanently visible as a kind of "contents list" while working on DITA topics (for example in a dedicated pane on the left)
- Display the title of referenced topics rather than file paths
- Make the topicrefs directly clickable

I imagine it's possible to achieve at least the last two of the above using CSS/XPath, but it would be easier to "sell" XmlMind to others if it looked a bit more like other XML editors "out of the box".

Regards,

No. However it's always possible to have the topics and the map side by
side by selecting on "Move Tab to the Opposite Side" in a document view.

See
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/openedDocumentTabs.html

<at> navtitle is already displayed by the stock CSS of a map.

This is already the case. Simply click the "Edit" button (or press
shortcut "F2 e") found the tool bar of a map.

See
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/dita/help-2.html#map_toolbar

link tool on macosx

Hi,

I wanted to check the link tool. I downloaded the 4.8 version on a macosx10.6 with a java 1.6.0_22 (java version "1.6.0_22"; Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261); Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.1-b03-307, mixed mode).

I have enabled the link tool in the preferences, quit and relauch xmleditor, the link tool panel is present but I cannot create any link, after selecting text the Edit --> Add or Change Link is not active (it is grey) just as the link panel.

What did I miss ?

Best regards,
Lionel

From what you describe, my guess is that you have opened a document
associated to an XXE configuration in which there is no <linkScheme>.

See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/configure/linkScheme.html

Currently link schemes are defined for the following configurations:
DITA topic (not map), XHTML, DocBook 4 and 5, Slides, Simplified DocBook.

You'll find a short introduction to the Link tool
here: http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/changes.html#v4.6.0
You should find there answers for most of your questions.

Merci d’avance,

Approximate translation to English:
---
After upgrading to XMLmind XML Editor v4.8, we found out that menu item
"Images displayed as thumbnails" in the View menu has disappeared.

After turning on option "View images as thumbnails" in the Preferences
dialog, images are indeed displayed as thumbnails, but that a frame
around each image still shows its actual size. This poses us
visualization problems. Is there a solution to this problem?
---

There is no simple solution to your problem. You need to customize the
DocBook configuration by hand in order to restore the behavior of older
versions of XMLmind XML Editor.

We don't consider the new behavior to be a regression in the general
case. The DocBook CSS stylesheet called "thumbnails.css" has been
removed but we have replaced this specific stylesheet by a generic, more
powerful, facility implemented by the "View|Display Images" submenu. You
should give it a try. May be you'll like it.
