[XXE] XMLmind XML Editor 3.5.0

XMLmind XML Editor Standard Edition 3.5.0 can be downloaded from
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/download.shtml

Professional Edition users, please upgrade using this form:
http://www.xmlmind.com/store/download.php

(The above form is usually accessed through
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/upgrade.html.)
  _____________________________________________

v3.5.0 (October 3, 2006): Highlights:

 * XMLmind XML Editor now supports Schematron,
   an ISO standard, which we view as a simple
   mean to add business rules to your XML
   documents. Example: the authors in your
   organization must write articles conforming to
   the DocBook grammar. Fine, but how to enforce
   this business rule: first section must have a
   "Introduction" title and last section must
   have a "Conclusion" title? The simple and
   elegant answer is called Schematron.
   Restricted in Standard Edition.

 * Upgraded the XMLmind FO Converter plug-in
   to XFC v3.0. Allows Professional Edition users
   to convert their XML documents to the
   OpenDocument format (native format of
   OpenOffice.org 2).

1) Ctrl+Shift+N -> Ctrl+Tab 2) xhtml namespace

1) I'd like to use Ctrl+Tab instead of (or in addition to) Ctrl+Shift+N
for the Window->Show Following menu option. I read through
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/commands/index.html and
also tried to record a macro, but I didn't have success with either. Is
there a way to do such a customization?

2) I customized addon/config/xhtml/template/strict_page.html to include
the xmlns declaration that the W3C favors. It works, but I'd like to add
this customization to my .xxe directory so it will persist when I update
XXE. I tried making a file
.xxe/addon/config/xhtml/template/strict_page.html, but that didn't seem
to work. Can I make this customization persistent?

Thanks,

Cay

It is great to hear that XXE now supports Schematron.

I looked to try and determine what the restrictions are for the Standard Edition, but was not able to find
anything about it. Could you kindly tell us, please, what the restrictions are?

Thanks,

ENTITY and Reference Support in XXE

I am converting several instructional documents to Docbook 4.4 format. These documents make extensive use of variables for constantly changing items like codenames and version numbers.

Since XXE doesn’t support entities, using external references is recommended. I’ve reviewed XMLMind’s page on how to include external references.

Here’s the problem: how do I include an external reference so that only the text is included and format is discarded? The format of the text must assume the format of the paragraph or character elements where it appears (as an ENTITY would do).

Thanks,

Jeremy

Error when attempting to install addons, XXE Pro 3.4

Hello,

today I've tried to install addons for XXE Pro 3.4 and got the following error:

Leyendo la lista de complementos
"http://www.xmlmind.net/xmleditor/_download/list.xxe_addon"...
XML error at 'http://www.xmlmind.net/xmleditor/_download/list.xxe_addon',
line 52, column 3: unexpected a:requires element

When, I've accepted it, the addons list was shown to me anyway, and I
could install some.

The above message didn't appear before 3.5 release.

I guess the 'a:requires' element is new to version 3.5 and therefore XXE
v3.4 fails to parse 'list.xxe_addon'. This is inconsequential since XXE v3.4
will get a relevant list of addons from 'list-${XXE_VERSION}.xxe_addon'.
(This doesn't hold true for earlier versions.)

Regards,

The answer of my coworker is 100% correct. However, we'll change the
code of XXE in order to get rid of this error message.

* Please read http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/stdedition.html
---
Validation against a Schematron will not work in Standard Edition,
unless the root element of the document being edited has a namespace and
this namespace is:

    * http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema,
    * or http://relaxng.org/ns/structure/1.0,
    * or http://purl.oclc.org/dsdl/schematron,
    * or http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml,
    * or http://docbook.org/ns/docbook,
    * or starts with "http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/schema/".

In practice, this means that Standard Edition can be used to edit
DocBook 5 (based on RELAX NG, and therefore, namespace enabled)
documents without any restriction. This includes the Schematron which
comes with DocBook 5.
---

---
PS: A Schematron is declared in an XXE configuration file by using the
cfg:schematron configuration element (see
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/configure/schematron.html).
The restrictions of Standard Edition regarding Schematron are listed
here too.

Yes.

--> Unwanted entries may be removed from personal dictionaries by
editing them using a text editor.

You'll find personal dictionaries in XXE_user_preferences_dir/spell/
(e.g. XXE_user_preferences_dir/spell/dict_en.txt) where
XXE_user_preferences_dir/ is:

  * $HOME/.xxe/ on Unix,
  * %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application
Data\XMLmind\XMLeditor\ on Windows 2000/XP,
  * %SystemDrive%\winnt\Profiles\%USERNAME%\Application
Data\XMLmind\XMLeditor\ on Windows NT.

--> Unwanted entries may be removed from compiled dictionaries (e.g.
en.dar, de.dar, etc) by using our Dictionary Builder tool (see
http://www.xmlmind.com/spellchecker/dictbuilder.shtml). Use the -sub
option (see
http://www.xmlmind.com/spellchecker/_distrib/dictbuilder/ar01s04.html).
