WinEdt 6 release date

Hi all. Does anyone know when the final release date of WinEdt 6 will be? I
heard it is the end of this year. However, we are already in December 2009.

I am working on it: It will be released in the beginning of
March.

Test versions might be available before that (as early as mid
January) but they may not be completely documented and some
changes to default settings might be done for the official
release depending on feedback...

Significant changes have been made to WinEdt's interfaces. In
particular, the way it is configured and customized has been
completely changed. Preferences, Settings, Appearance, Menu
Setup, and Highlighting Dialogs have been dropped (eliminated)
in favor of a new (consistent) Options Interface. Programming
work on WinEdt 6 is pretty much finished but lots of stuff has
to be documented or else I will be swamped with questions and
support requests...

Not many users know this but I had a pretty solid version of
WinEdt 6 ready more than a year ago. However, a dilemma arose
whether to release it as the first step towards the new setup
or to bite a bullet and replace the above dialogs with more
manageable interface. This took a lot of work and involved many
decisions on how to reorganize all the options. Once a decision
was made I was able to get rid of tens of thousands of lines of
legacy code (compatibility when it comes to loading the
settings from previous versions). I was also able to fix some

Re: WinEdt 6 release date

Bravo! Just for that simplification alone, I'm willing to pay a
(reasonable) new license fee. Even as a long-time WinEdt user, if it's
been a while since I had to change some aspect of the configuration, I
never know whether to go to Preferences, Settings, Appearance, Menu
Setup, etc. -- the the point that I dread having to fritter away time to
find where I need to change what needs to be changed.

One caveat to what I said: If Y&Y TeX is not supported in WinEdt 6,
then the program will have very limited value to me. (Unless and until
somebody creates a viewer engine for Windows as fast as dviwindo, I'm
wedded to Y&Y TeX for most of my work.)

I'll add to Murray's praise and support - I'd have no problem in paying for
an upgrade and giving a hand with testing, documentation etc.

Cheers,  Phil

i have also been waiting for the new release
and am ready for paying a reasonable new lincense
fee. i would also take part in a review process.

Well I don't mind to pay an upgrade fee. But it is really important
for me that I can install winedt without admin rights on restricted
accounts.

Re: WinEdt 6 release date

Finally the long awaited WinEdt 6 will be out. Yes, it'll make sense to run v5.6 and v6 in parallel in the beginning so as to be able to migrate all customizations done on v5.6 slowly to v6. This can be a daunting task for ordinary users like me but I'm sure that WinEdt users will help each other as always.

I recently installed TeXLive 2009 on my Winedt 5.6b. I lost some macro functionality and had to reinstall them. TL09 works fine with the WinEdt 5.6b. Each year now sees updated LaTeX packages while some packages become obsolete or are not upgraded anymore. Of course each updated package brings new functionalities but will this madness of continual updating ever end? Will I be able to compile the report that I'm preparing today? Of course, I can store all packages and style files as well alongside my LaTeX document. But who is doing that? Personally I would like now to stick to TL2009 for a couple of years to come. And it will definitely take some time for me to have the new WinEdt 6 function as my v5.6 is doing today, but this will perhaps give me an opportunity to go into the macro manual of WinEdt.

I would also like to ask that support for Y&Y TeX be included in
WinEdt release 6.

Dear Joel

If you are using WinEdt, do the following

1. write your Macro as you did; for instance,

SetSearchCurrentDoc;
SetSearchForward(1);
SetSearchCaseSensitive(0);
SetSearchEntire(0);
SetSearchCyclic(1);
SetSearchRelaxed(0);
SetSearchWholeWords(0);
SetSearchInline(0);
SetSearchCurrentDoc;
SetRegEx(0);
SetReplaceRespectCaps(0);
SetReplacePrompt(1);

SetFindStr("whatever1");
SetReplaceStr("[1]");
SearchReset;
ReplaceAll;

SetFindStr("whatever2");
SetReplaceStr("[2]");
SearchReset;
ReplaceAll;

2. Save it somewhere; for instance, as "C:\MyMacro.edt".

3. From the WinEdt program, call the macro, by going to Macros->Execute Macro
Script->YOUR FILE (or CTRL+F9->YOUR FILE).

Hope this helps!

WinEdt and Windows 7

Gentlepersons:

What about Windows 7 and WinEdit? As far as I can see from the web
sites WinEdt is not compatible with Windows 7. Is that correct? But
what alternatives are there with Win 7?
