stop compounded words from being highlighted in 2 colors

hallo

I'm using v5.5 Build 20071003, german and english spellchecking-files
prowided by winedt.org. or coming with WinEdt. AFAIR I only added the
german
one. Some of the english ones are used by default.

I've set
\documentclass [tablecaptionabove, german, paper=a4]{scrartcl}
\usepackage[german,ngerman]{babel}
\usepackage{varioref} % \vref
\usepackage[german]{fancyref} % \fref

Sometimes, the parts of unknown words are underlined and marked in two
different colors: red R (wrong/unknown) and lilac L (as for comments).

I've read the postings from
From: Peter Flom <Flom <at> ndri.org>
Subject: RE: Odd spelling check issue with red highlighting

and the WinEdt-Help.

I'd like WinEdt to recognize compounded words as compounded words and mark
them as normal Text, that's why I don't like the solution from Help
(prevent the recognition of compounded words)

At the moment, "compounded words" of the german- and user-dictionary is
unchecked, the other dictionaries are set to their default values, I

Re: stop compounded words from being highlighted in 2 colors

After enabling compounded words and make other acceptable
selections (defaults should pretty much do) In Errors page:

  - Uncheck "Alternate Colors"
  - Set Default Color and Font for Compounded Words
    (click Compounded Words Radio Button)

Now you'll get default colors for compounded words...

Thanks for the quick answer!

> Now you'll get default colors for compounded words

It works as you say and it is an improvement, but it still doesn't work as
I want it to. At the moment WinEdt recognizes lots of misspelled
compounded words as compounded words so I still have to check every
coloured word.

While modifying and testing the options I am learning automatic
spellchecking is not an easy task. To make a long story short:

Do I have to teach WinEdt *every* word that it doesn't know or will WinEdt
be able to distinguish misspelled compounded words from compounded words
after some adjustments?

kind regards

HELP WinEdt freezes (2)

Dear All.

I posted this massage around New Years, but perhaps overlooked a reply? So I still have the same problems with WinEdt Build: 20071003  (v. 5.5), running on
LENOVO PC,
 with MS Windows XP professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3.

When I type in WinEdt the following

******************* CUT ***************
\newcommand{\yt}
\begin{document}

\end{document}
******************* PASTE ***************

(without *****) and then save it as a TEX file, and reopen this file, WinEdt freezes.
When I type the same, but save it as TXT file, and reopen it with WinEdt, it is OK.

Any help appreciated.

Can't reproduce this. Are you sure you haven't installed some WinEdt
package that automatically tries to read macro definitions and that then
runs afoul of an incomplete \newcommand?

Cheers,  Phil

Re: HELP WinEdt freezes (2)

I cannot reproduce this with default settings for the same
build.

Perhaps this has to do with some strange highlighting settings
(or wrapping/ formatting environments) which are specific to
your settings or imported / inherited from older versions of
WinEdt into your build.

If this was a common problem I would have heard of it before as
others are bound to stumble upon it.

Backup your settings. Restore defaults and see if the problem
persists. Then take it from there to see what's going on on
your machine... Focus on any changes that you made to the
default settings. I have no idea unless you can give more clues
and even then I doubt that I'll be able to reproduce it...

Can anyone else confirm this problem?

best regards,

alex

PS. Just saw Phil's reply; if you press and hold SHFT+ESC key for
a minute or so (or a few times) does WinEdt unfreeze?

Re: HELP WinEdt freezes (2)

Dear Alex and Phil.

Thanks for your help. I have tried SHFT+ESC repeatedly without success.
Holding it for one minute does not help either. Restoring to default
settings was again useless. But now I completely removed and restart WinEdT
and it appears it is working OK.
I lost every of my favorite settings, though :(

Thanks again...

Regards, Bojan

Well, that was a little drastic: you could have backed up yopur settings and
then reintroduced them one-by-one to see who was the guilty party.

ACII, UTF-8, Unicode

Dear Alex,

the TeX-Community has always been orientated to plattform independency.
So I think it should be a driving force in the process of establishing
standards that leave behind local or idiosyncratic ones (and the
ridiculous need to convert). I know that the community could be more
active in that area. But there are for example groups converting (and
improving) hyhenation patterns to utf-8. (cf.
http://groups.google.de/group/trennmuster-opensource)  As you certainly
know WinEdt is one of the most preferred TeX related editors on the
windows plattform and so it is part of the toolbox of the TeX-Community.
So my question is: Do you have plans to make WinEdt capable to handle
utf-8 files \emph{without restrictions} in the near future? I know, that
there is some support of uft-8 in the current versions. But it would be
really great to have a more readable mix of german or english \emph{and}
greek in source code files.

Hoping for a positive answer,
Best wishes,
Matthias Vogel

I strongly support this request, although I do appreciate
that the underlying limitation lies in Borland's Delphi
implementation rather than in WinEDT or Alex's wish-list.
