Re: Execution Mode Configuration for Network Installation

Thank you for your response, but I'm afraid I am still not able to resolve
this issue. I apologize if I am missing something.

I logged in to the server as the local administrator, launched WinEdt, and
disabled auto-detect for the items in the Tex System tab of the Execution
Modes-MikTex window.

I then manually entered the Tex Root, Bin, Help, and Dvi Viewer paths and
hit Apply.

In my first attempt, I wrote the paths according to how they were available
on the server (e.g. D:\Applications\Math\MiKTeX 2.7 ).

In my second attempt, I wrote the paths as they would be available while the
\\server\Applications share is mapped by a client (e.g. O:\Math\MiKTeX 2.7
).

After each attempt, I ran the Configuration Wizard -> User Profiles, and
pressed Enable/Update Automatic Profiles. Then I logged in on a client
computer as a domain user, mapped \\server\Applications as O:\ and then
deleted the WinEdt folder in my Application Data.

After those steps, I launched WinEdt and in both attempts I found that my
changes as administrator on the server seemed to have no bearing on the
client's settings.

I apologize, but I need help understanding what it is that I am missing. Is
it necessary that the client computer have registry entries or a path entry
for the software? I had assumed that since it was a network installation
this would be unnecessary.

That could very well be so because on the server you were
working with a user profile enabled and changes were stored in
your application data folder rather than the install folder.

Perhaps the easiest way would be to temporarily delete the user
profile and automatic user profile creation (on the server).
Then you must manually enter just the TeX Root folder as will
be seen by users on clients (eg. O:\Math\MiKTeX 2.7). The rest
of the folders will fix themselves automatically if the root is
properly specified.

If you don't feel like messing with user profiles you can
manually copy Files in Exec\MiKTeX folder from your
applications data into WinEdt's Install folder. You will notice
that ...Exec\MiKTeX\ExeModeAutoDetect.edt contains something
like this:

  Assign(!"TeXAuto-Root", !"0");
  Assign(!"TeX-Root",!"O:\Math\MiKTeX 2.7");

That's all that is required. Check the file manually to see
that it contains a proper definition...

Before you start doing this you should first check if entering
the changes directly on a client machine actually fixes the
problem. If not, then the problem is elsewhere...

switching between 2 MikTeX

Dear WinEdt'ers

I have two MiKTeX (v.2.4 and v.2.7) installed in my computer. Is there any
possibility to switch from using one MiKTeX to another --- in a simple way
on WinEdt?

Best regards

Just set the following value point to the corresponding bin path of
your MiKTeX:

Options -- Execution Modes -- Tex System -- Tex Bin

In deail, use C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin for  MiKTeX v.2.4
and C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.4\miktex\bin for MiKTeX v.2.7

Best regards

I'll try:

First of all, the macros are tested with WinEdt 5.6, and I'm not sure
whether they'll work with 5.5 (although chances are good). Also, the
following instructions apply to 5.6:

* Go to http://www.winedt.org/temp/, and save the macros beginning with
"Acrobat" in the folder %b\Exec (where %b is WinEdt's local directory,
e.g. "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\WinEdt" on Vista).

Next time you update WinEdt, you should delete these files.

* Both forward and inverse search require a recent pdftex (MiKTeX 2.7,
TeXLive 2008).
To enable forward and inverse search,
  - open Options | Execution Modes | Console Applications,
  - select "PDFLaTeX" in the list of accessories,
  - add
    --synctex=-1
    to the "Switches"
  - select "PDFTeXify"
  - add
    --tex-option="--synctex=-1"
    to the "Switches"

Searching for \newcites in the complete document could be quite slow, so
I don't think that this should be supported by default. However, I have
now extended BibTeX.edt such that you can tell WinEdt which files bibtex
should compile additionally.

You can download the new edition of BibTeX.edt from
http://www.winedt.org/temp/:
    * for WinEdt 5.5, save BibTeX_5.5.edt as BibTeX.edt in %b\Exec\<TeX
System>, eg. %b\Exec\MiKTeX;
    * for WinEdt 5.6, save BibTeX.edt in %b\Exec\TeX.

With this updated macro, you can add to the *preamble* of your document
for all multibib bibliographies (or in fact any additional
bibliographies) something like:

% !bibtex-file:: "sources" % (note the double colon)
% !bibtex-file:: "secondary"

ANN: news from winedt.org

(= on behalf of winedt.org =)

Olá!

It's my pleasure to announce the new and updated packages on www.winedt.org:

  * A new mode called "R-Sweave" has been contributed by Gilbert Ritschard.

     R-Sweave is a variant of Uwe Ligges' RWinEdt, running in a standard
     WinEdt session instead of as a standalone instance, and additionally
     includes support for Sweave.

--> http://www.winedt.org/Config/modes/R-Sweave.php

  * A new dictionary for Greek has been contributed by Zach Agioutantis.

     The Greek dictionary is based on the OpenOffice dictionary and
     contains more than 575,000 Greek words.

--> http://www.winedt.org/Dict/greek_open.txt

  * A new SVN menu has been contributed by Gonzalo.

     This menu gives access to the basic commands for a SVN Version
     Control System (e.g., TortoiseSVN).

--> http://www.winedt.org/Config/menus/svn.php

  * The PDFnup macro has been updated.
