Mailing List Guidelines

      WinEdt Mailing List Guidelines
      ==============================

These guidelines are sent to the WinEdt Mailing List once a month.
Please keep them in mind when posting to the list.

   ---------------------------------------------------------------------

* What To Post

The WinEdt Mailing List is for questions about the WinEdt editor. You
should not post questions concerning LaTeX, MiKTeX, BibTeX et al. to
the mailing list. WinEdt is a shell/editor for LaTeX etc. and the
list is intended to answer questions concerning WinEdt, not LaTeX
   etc.
(Sometimes it might be difficult to decide whether a problem is
related to WinEdt or to MiKTeX, LaTeX etc. A rule of thumb is: If you
are having the same problems when running the program from the
command line, it is NOT related to WinEdt.)

A lot of questions are being asked over and over again. Check that
your question isn't already answered in the WinEdt FAQ at
      <http://www.winedt.org/Doc/FAQ>
or in the mailing list archives at
      <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WinEdt>.

When sending a question to the mailing list, try to be specific.
   Include (at least)
+ the Build number of your WinEdt (see "Help | About WinEdt...")

WinEdt stata mode deleted LaTex mode?

Hi,

I am using WinEdt as a LaTex front page. I have just installed the
Stata mode of WinEdt from (http://www.winedt.org/Config/modes/Stata.php).
I have a big problem now, since the WinEdt does not work for LaTex
compilations any more. I do not know why this happened. What do I need to
do to be able to use the LaTex functions again? This is very important
since I am writing my dissertation using LaTex&WinEdt...

Also, stata .do files do not run from within the WinEdt either. Is
there a step missing on the web page that I need to do to be able to run
Stata from within WinEdt?

Thanks,
Regards,
aslihan arslan

changing open-window appearance

Hey,

Is there a way to change the standard appearance of the Open-Window
(used to open files to edit them) in Winedt 5.4? Namely, what I want is
to see immediately the details of the files in the working directory,
like: the date that it was last changed and I would like that these
files are ordered w.r.t. these dates.

I work with Windows XP and Winedt 5.4.

Cheers,
Raf

The current mode can be selected in Options | Configurations. To switch
back to the LaTeX configuration (probably MiKTeX), just select
Options | Configurations | MiKTeX.

Did you install the Stata program? The mode only provides the interface.

Robert.

WinEdt and Outlook

If anyone has any guidance on how to automate the process of saving an
Outlook email message as a text file then opening that text file in
winedt for editing I would be very appreciative. I have been working on
a set of citing/quoting macros that facilitate bottom posting. It's a
little clunky in that in order to get the message into Winedt I have to
File...Save As in outlook then switch to Winedt and File...Open.

I don't know how much value you'll have of it but you
might be interested in OE-Quotefix software doing
something that sounds like what you try to do. I'm
careful to point out that it's merely a guess on my
part. Disregard if you were thinking of something else.

I don't know what you mean by citing/ quoting macros but I don't
think there is much WinEdt can do here.

WinEdt only provides a basic interface to Windows MAPISendMail
function. Any attempt to let WinEdt access Outlook's messages
directly would require much more and since WinEdt is designed to be
a MAPI client this is pretty much out of question.

In other words I don't know of any way to easily import messages
from Outlook to WinEdt (eg. Outlook does not support dragging them
outside). I usually use copy and paste but that, too, is not very
elegant although it is enough for my needs...

alex

I was reading the documentation pertaining to the Windows Common
Dialogs in order to find a way to implement a custom look in Open
and Save As dialogs. However, I found no easy way to get or set the
View preferences in these dialogs (they appear to apply only for a
session).

Maybe somebody with programming experience know of a reasonably
simple the way to do it. I would be reluctant installing any custom
Delphi VCL components of templates since common dialogs are a
subject to change in windows and customizing them makes them look
obsolete after windows improves their appearance and
functionality... But I am open to any hints how to affect these
options before displaying a common dialog.

Best regards,

alex

Incremental search

Hi. I come across the following behaviour when using incremental search.
Is it the way it's supposed to be? I would really like to change it.

When I start the search, the previous search is in the window. As I
start deleting it, however, WinEdt also starts seaching, usually in a
different document, for that word. This happens although I have the "All
Documents" box not checked. (If you wonder why I have the previous
search in the window, that is because I don't know how else to start
editing at the point the search finds for me -- I have to prese Enter,
b/c Cancel would take me back to the beginning.)

What I would like is that, each time I start, I can enter my new term
without having to go through the document where the previous search was
conducted, etc. Is there an easy answer to this?

Best.
Nicolae
