Guidelines for WDSCI-L mailing list

Monthly posting of the guidelines for participation in the Websphere
Development Studio Client and Rational Developer for i mailing list.

Keep to the subject. The topic of the list is IBM's Rational Developer
for Power Systems, Rational Developer for i, and Websphere Development
Studio Client. This includes all aspects of RDp / RDi / WDSCi.
Including, but not limited to: RSE, LPEX, Compiling, Verification,
and CODE/400.

NOTE: EGL, Java, and Web development topics are better served in
the lists specific to those topics.

Limited discussion of third party plug-in's is also allowed. It is,
however, recommend that questions about third party (non-IBM), non-open
source, plug-in's be directed to the vendor's technical support group.

Please be aware ... a number of IBM employees monitor this mailing list
and will offer help when possible. Please keep in mind that the IBM'ers
participate in this list on their spare time and so may not be able to
respond promptly if at all.

When starting a new discussion thread, *PLEASE* try to avoid replying to
an existing message to get the correct email address. When you reply to
an existing message, most email clients and the list archiving software
think that the new thread is part of the old thread, and will display it
as such.

When quoting messages, do not quote the entire message. Just quote the
parts that are needed to make the appropriate references.

WDSc version 7 does not show all the lines of code when doing a "show indentation".

Has anyone experienced this problem?

For some reason, the indented listing is stopping at line 1700 and needs to
go to line 6700.

I have tried changing the lines, overtyping, clearing, blanking and whatever
else I could think of.

What I have noticed is that the main window in "replace" mode identifies the
colors for the op code etc. At the line where the indented listing stops,
the color coding in the main window also stops.

Does anyone have an idea as to what is the cause?

TIA

Re: WDSc version 7 does not show all the lines of code when doing a "show indentation".

Darryl,
I remember reading a while ago something about WDSc having a restriction
on the number of lines and how deep the indentation can be. I think you
might have hit that limit.

Re: WDSc version 7 does not show all the lines of code when doing a "show indentation".

Hmm, the loss of the colorized tokens sounds to me like a glitch in the syntax checking logic. I remember
seeing this sometimes, for various reasons as I recall...

Check for missing or out of order ENDxx, or if free form, statement terminator, or if expression, make sure
it's not overflowing column 79... In SQL, check for RPG variables that were not prefixed with the colon.
Also, if SQL, I think I had trouble with qualified file references, where the qualifying library name was
not in the RSE job library list... Oh yeah, I think I saw this once when someone used x'00' in the first few
columns of a source member. I think the null characters got stripped out, not replaced with blanks,
causing syntax errors...

I'm sure you're aware, but that version is quite old, and support for this will be limited.

Hth,
-Eric DeLong

WDSc version 7 does not show all the lines of code when doing a "show indentation".

Here is some info responding to responses so far:

1. There is no limit. I have printed the whole program indented
several times before.

2. I do not have any lines exceeding column 79. Column 60 is about the
furthest to the right.

3. The program compiles normally and the listing is okay in the
compiler and SEU's print.

4. Program is a mix of free and structured code and is an SQLRPGLE
program.

5. I do not believe the code has any strange characters added in. I
retyped the lines to check if that would be the problem, but it did not
help.

Thanks

WDSCi 7.0 on Windows 7 64-bit

We're still on i5/OS V5R4M5, so we haven't dealt with the licensing issue to get the newer RDi/RDP/etc. I'm
trying to get WDSCi 7.0 working in the mean time.

I installed the IBM Installation Manager and WDSCi 7.0 from the discs I have. The first time, I tried
installing with updates, but that failed miserably. I forget the details...

I went through a second time and just installed the base version. No obvious problems during installation.
I then created an iSeries connection and some source filters. When I expand the source filter, I get an
error: Connection to x.x.x.x could not be established. An unknown error occurred connecting to x.x.x.x.
Check if you have connection to the host. If the connection is not broken, check that TCP/IP is configured
correctly on the local machine and all host servers are started on x.x.x.x.

That's not very helpful. I get the same result whether I run as myself or as administrator, so I don't think
it's a permission issue. It still works on my old computer, so I know it's not a server issue.

I thought maybe it was because I just installed the base version, and the old computer has 7.0.0.8 (I think; I
can't find that version number.) I downloaded the 7.0.0.8 patch, extracted it, added it to the
Installation Manager repositories. I've tried with Update Packages and Install Packages, but it won't
install. It shows up on the list for Install Packages, but nothing happens when I check the box and click
Next. I get the same nothing when I check for updates in Update Packages.

The really odd thing is sometimes my member list expands to show members, even though I still get the
connection error. That means it must have connected at some point.

My Installation Manager is version 1.0, and I was unable to find an update applicable to that version.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? (Other than purchase the new version.)

Re: WDSCi 7.0 on Windows 7 64-bit

Sean,

On Windows7, I NEVER install to the default "programs" path. In Win7, this a virtualized, and all sorts of
new authority checking occurs. I always install the rational products to a /IBM directory in root. I put
everything there (SDP, SDP_shared, Installation manager, and workspaces).

Re: WDSCi 7.0 on Windows 7 64-bit

Sean,
What I did is run it in XP mode if your running Win 7 Pro it's
included, if your on home I think there are some other hoops to jump
through. I couldn't get it to work reliably under Win 7 64bit so I just
gave up.

Re: WDSCi 7.0 on Windows 7 64-bit

Sean,

Eric is correct that you shouldn't install to Program Files on Win 7 64. Also,
to apply updates you have to update Installation Manager. The version on your
disks isn't new enough. You can download the latest version, 1.5.1, from
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24031048#downloads, if you
can't get your copy to update itself. Once you have that, you can update WDSCi
to 7.0.0.8 and it should start working correctly. I think it was 7.0.0.6 that
had the fixes required to make it work correctly on Vista, which is what it
takes to make it work with Win 7.

I was able to install WDSC 7 on a windows 7 PC after a failed attempt by
following these instructions:
