Guidelines for WDSCI-L mailing list

Monthly posting of the guidelines for participation in the Websphere
Development Studio Client and Rational Developer for i mailing list.

Keep to the subject.  The topic of the list is IBM's Rational Developer
for Power Systems, Rational Developer for i, and Websphere Development
Studio Client.  This includes all aspects of RDp / RDi / WDSCi. 
Including, but not limited to: RSE, LPEX, Compiling, Verification,
and CODE/400.

NOTE: EGL, Java, and Web development topics are better served in 
the lists specific to those topics.

Limited discussion of third party plug-in's is also allowed.  It is, 
however, recommend that questions about third party (non-IBM), non-open
source, plug-in's be directed to the vendor's technical support group.

Please be aware ... a number of IBM employees monitor this mailing list
and will offer help when possible.  Please keep in mind that the IBM'ers
participate in this list on their spare time and so may not be able to
respond promptly if at all.

When starting a new discussion thread, *PLEASE* try to avoid replying to
an existing message to get the correct email address.  When you reply to
an existing message, most email clients and the list archiving software
think that the new thread is part of the old thread, and will display it
as such.

When quoting messages, do not quote the entire message.  Just quote the
parts that are needed to make the appropriate references.

Service entry point SEP and 7.1

Has anyone run into problems getting SEPs to activate on their 7.1
systems?

The debug server is started and the SEP sets up just fine but whenever I
run any program I set a SEP for the debug view (almost) never activates.
I say almost because I cannot be 100% certain it has not in the past,
it's just not doing it now. 

SEPs activate when connected to our 5.4 system in the same RDP 8.0.3
workspace function normally. 

The connection properties between my RDP connections for the 5.4 and 7.1
systems are pretty close, the initial command program is different.

My user profile is close except for the special class being *SECOFR on
5.4 and *PGMR on 7.1.

If I remember rightly, you need *SERVICE special authority to use SEPs.

Won't convert data structure I specs to D specs

I have a source member that contains a few large data structures. I'm
trying to convert it from RPG to RPGLE. WDSc (version 7.0) converts
the comments, but doesn't convert the data structures. I receive a
conversion complete message. Any ideas? Thanks.

I do not have *SERVICE authority on our 5.4 system and I did not see anything in the memo to users about that,
for 6.1 and 7.1.

I think that it will only convert fixed form RPG to free form RPG.  It won't try to alter storage techniques.

Assuming you are running QSECURITY level 30 or higher, here are the default special authorities assigned
by user class.

    *SECOFR &#8211; All special authorities
    *SECADM - *SECADM special authority
    *SYSOPR - *SAVSYS and *JOBCTL special authority
    *PGMR &#8211; No special authorities
    *USER &#8211; No special authorities

Hi Matt,

When setting/running SEP, there are two user profiles involved.  First, the
setter's user profile, and this is the user profile you used for RSE
connection.  For runner's user profile, by default, it is set to the same
as the setter's profile, but you can change it in Service Entry Point view.
I don't think you need *SERVICE authority to set/run SEP.  I remembered
there used to be a problem if your setter and runner are of different user
profiles, and you need *SERVICE authority, but this problem should be fixed
long time ago.

Please make sure the user id you used to run the application (where SEP
will be hit) is the same as the user profile you used to logon to RSE (then
to set SEP).  Please let me know if they are the same, but you still have
problem.

I don't have 7.1 but you might try seeing if you can manually start a
service job  (STRSRVJOB ) to that other job and then do a Start Debug
(STRDBG ) just to see if it gives you any error messages that might give
you some clues (of course using the same user profiles).
