Guidelines for WDSCI-L mailing list

Monthly posting of the guidelines for participation in the Websphere
Development Studio Client and Rational Developer for i mailing list.

Keep to the subject. The topic of the list is IBM's Websphere Development
Studio Client and Rational Developer for i. This includes all aspects of
WDSCi / RDi. Including, but not limited to: RSE, LPEX, Compiling,
Verification, EGL, Web development, Java development, and CODE/400.

Limited discussion of third party plug-in's is also allowed. It is,
however, recommend that questions about third party (non-IBM), non-open
source, plug-in's be directed to the vendor's technical support group.

Please be aware ... a number of IBM employees monitor this mailing list
and will offer help when possible. Please keep in mind that the IBM'ers
participate in this list on their spare time and so may not be able to
respond promptly if at all.

When starting a new discussion thread, *PLEASE* try to avoid replying to
an existing message to get the correct email address. When you reply to
an existing message, most email clients and the list archiving software
think that the new thread is part of the old thread, and will display it
as such.

When quoting messages, do not quote the entire message. Just quote the
parts that are needed to make the appropriate references.

Flames are absolutely prohibited. If you disagree with someone, feel
free to argue the facts, but no personal attacks will be tolerated.

The official language of the Midrange Systems Mailing List is English.

If they install in RDi 7.5, they _should_ install the same way in RDp 7.5 & 7.6.

Softlanding Plugins - RDP 7.6

Has anyone been able to install the Softlanding plugins in RDP 7.6? I can
find no instructions for anything beyond RDi 7.5.

There's no plug in for RDP yet. They're working on releasing one pretty
soon.

Re: Softlanding Plugins - RDP 7.6

If Jon is referring to the open source RSE plugins, then they will install
fine into RDP 7.5.
There are a couple manual steps necessary, which are displayed in the read
me during install.
I have not personally had time to see if they install to RDP 7.6, but as
David mentions it should be the same.

<vendor>
If Jon is referring to the TurnOver plugins (used to extend SoftLandings
TurnOver product), then Luis is correct in that the RDP 7.5 version should
be available shortly.
The existing RDi 7.5 Plug-in will work, but there are a couple small changes
that had to be done in order to support the changes in the screen designer
and the report designer.

ssl & RDi/RDp

In the archives I found a lot of posts looking for SSL support in WDSC 5 & 6
but nothing since. Has the status changed at all for RDi 7.5 or later?

We have a new edict that states everything sensitive must be encrypted. No
big deal for source code, but RDi uses the unsecured port for as-signon and
any data we might query is unencrypted as well.

We were able to quickly change System i Access to use SSL and as a result
any querying we do from RunSQLScripts is through SSL.

Thanks,

Phil

PTF SI37125 for 5761SS1 V6.1 and RDp 7.6

FYI

I have been wrestling all day with debugging problems that now seem to have
been caused by this PTF.

Symptoms were that either:

a) DBG0021E was issued for programs with multiple bound modules (even though
all modules weree debuggable) or

b) Service entry point was set without complaint but when bound modules were
stepped-into all subsequent break points etc. were ignored and program ran to
completion.

Removing the PTF has cured this for me (at the moment anyway) - now I have to
get round to reporting it to IBM!

Green screen debugging and (most) attempts at debugging with RDp 7.5 did not
exhibit these problems.

OS V6R1

Hi all,
Yesterday we held an IT department meeting, where it was announced that following the installation of OS
V6R1, we've now acquired a new machine and we'll be migrating at the end of the month. I thought I'd learnt
from this list that a decision would have to made concerning the choice of development environment, ie,
RDi (or whatever it would be called) and/or ADTS. So I asked the question what that decision was. The reply
was vague and implied that we'd managed to "get round" that problem. I felt pretty stupid. So, the bulk of us
will stay on ADTS with a couple using WDSc V6.1.

RDp 7.5 Cut & Paste Report Design

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can cut & paste the report design from report designer into a word document?

I am currently producing a design document which needs to include a modified report layout. I do not want to
type it in from scratch (there are already 17 formats) so want to be able to copy the existing layout into
word so that I can modify it but I can work out how to do it.

Best regards,
