WDSC 6 to 7

I'm about to upgrade from 6 to 7. Is there anything I should beware of?

Thanks

One thing you *might* want to do is to make a copy of your workspace
before you upgrade. I had no issues upgrading. All my extensions and
addons worked if I remember. It was a long time ago for me. 7.0 is
very stable compared to 6.0.

Other than a vast performance improvement I can't think of anything :D

Once you convert a workspace from 6 to 7 it can't go back.

Be sure you upgrade it to the current level - 7.0.0.8 Interim Fix 001.

Re: WDSC 6 to 7

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I'm assuming that we only have the
standard version and not the Advance edition. So I guess that means I
will not get to check out the new screen design tool. Have any of you
used it and is it much better than the old one and worth the extra cost?

Re: WDSC 6 to 7

The only time I have seen the screen tool was when I attended an IBM session in Chicago awhile back. It did look
a lot better than CODE Designer. But the company I used to work for did not purchase this extension so I have
no other feedback I can provide. However, next year where I now work we are hopefully moving up to RDi. :)

Re: WDSC 6 to 7

It would be nice if the new RDI they could enhance COBOL to give key assist
after typing a command. Like if I typed START if would give the option of
adding a basic Start Invalid Key Valid Key End-Start. Or if I
typed IF it would give option to put a basic IF ELSE END-IF. Or if as
you typed IF Variable... it would give list of choices NOT EQUAL NOT =
LESS THAN GREATER THAN > < etc...... Just anything to make the less key
strokes like coding in VB.NET or other languages. If that could be added
you could make more of a reason to go to RDI right away instead of hanging
on to WDSC for as long as you can. Just my two cents.

  Thanks,
   Jeff

Re: WDSC 6 to 7

My Fault ignore my last post shown below...... I just realized they do have
content assist it in ILE COBOL. But since mostly all of our programs we
maintain are in OPM is that feature available in WDSC/RDI for OPM. I would
think content assist for ILE COBOL or OPM COBOL would be very similar.
