Re: Any Tricks and Tips about using Snippits in WDSI for RPG

AFAIK there is no "team" capability for snippits but you can export/import them, which would allow you to
have a central repository.

I use them all the time, and they work very well for me. My categories are:
Program/Procedure
Subroutines
Data Structures
File
Copybooks
Misc
API Interfaces

EVFEVENT file issues...

I believe this change was made to better handle programs with embedded
SQL. It has been a while since I reviewed this, but when compiling if an
error occurs you should now be able to click on the error in WDSC and pull
up the actual source file. Before it was only pulling up the pre-compiled
source.

Hi All,

I have noticed another oddity that seems to have arrived with RDi
(latest updates all applied).

For some reason, the EVFEVENT file was being created in one of the
application libraries instead of my *CURRENT library. Every programmers
compiles are going into this same file.

I tried deleting all the EVFEVENT files, tried adding OVRDBF as my
initial command in the connection, but nothing seems to work.

Have I missed (or forgotten) something? I had used WDSC for years

Re: Any Tricks and Tips about using Snippits in WDSI for RPG

I use three categories of snippets for RPG. One for our compile/versioning utility commands, one for
embedded SQL and a catch-all for everything else.

You can Export/Import snippets.

Re: Any Tricks and Tips about using Snippits in WDSI for RPG

I tend to use templates for calc specs and snippets for other specs.
This shortens my snippets list to where I can keep it under one list
called iSeries. I don't worry about organizing the templates since
auto-complete means they are <crtl> space bar away (long as I remember
the names)

I like the idea of using code snippits for RPG and am wondering if any
one would care to share some tricks and tips on how you organize the
snippits and how you are breaking them done.

Thanks

RSE Enhancement plug-in & RDi 7.5

Folks:

Due to the radical changes between WDSC 7.0 / RDI 7.1 and RDI 7.5, the RSE Enhancement plug-in I wrote is
totally incompatible with RDI 7.5.

Please do not try to install it.

When I get some time, I'll try to create a new version that will be compatible with RDI 7.5.

Re: Any Tricks and Tips about using Snippits in WDSI for RPG

Thank you all for responding.

Based on how many responded is the use of snippets not something that is
widely used for RPG? Are developers finding its not worth the effort in RPG
to use snippets or would be used more if it was easier to enter and extract
the snippets?

What would be cool is a function key combination when source editing and you
put in a wild card scan on your snippets and you could select it and it
would be pasted after the line your in. This is to complement the snippit
perspective. Suppose you have interactive shell snippets you do a wild card
search on interactive and brings them all up to select from. Heck, you could
be building a source module and selecting from many different snippets......
Just a thought.......

IBM Unveils Change Management Software for System i

Boss was reading this story at
http://www.itjungle.com/fhs/fhs120208-story01.html
about IBM unveiling "Rational Team Concert for i". He was wondering if we
should replace our existing change management for this. Having JUST
replaced our existing change management software once I am not overly
anxious. (Slapping my hand to not go off on a tangent.)
Pros: Probably a tool that is 100% based around RDi. This may help beat
the remaining SEU dinosaurs into RDi. Also, I am finding out that tools
that straddle the fence are often more robust in 5250 land and developers
that do use RDi often start using SEU just to not alternate between 5250
and RDi.

Do any of you have enough familiarity with the product to begin forming an
opinion?

Re: Any Tricks and Tips about using Snippits in WDSI forRPG

Anyone got any snippets they are willing to share?
Not being at all at home with this functionality of WDSc, I'd like to be able to import something and modify it
for my own ends.
Thanks.
