Re: If - Else - Endif advise

Vern,

I spoke to our systems guy and he spoke to our BP. He said that since we
are on an unsupported level of the OS (V5R1) we are not entitled.

Is there another way to get the Version 7 CDs?

Thanks,

Poor guy...

Robert

You don't NEED to upgrade from V5R1 to get V7 or WDSC - the fact that you
have it already means you can order the refresh to the latest standard
version. I know that it's use over V5R1 might not be officially supported,
but we're doing it all the time here. I would strongly suggest trying to get
it - it's so much better than 6 and immeasurably better than 5.

You can also map the 'Fill selection' function to a key shortcut if you
use it often (as I do). Let me know if you need instructions.

An alternative that may better fit the bill in other block copying

Re: positional copy blocks

Okay, here's what you need to know to map the 'Fill selection' action to
a keyboard shortcut.

First, see the wiki for general instructions on setting a keyboard
shortcut: http://tinyurl.com/3334uz (same as
http://wiki.midrange.com/index.php/WDSC_LPEX#Remap_keyboard_shortcuts).

The name of the action you are looking for is 'blockFill'. FWIW, I have
it mapped to Alt+Shift+F, which is a-s-f in the 'Key' field on the 'User
Key Actions' dialogue.

In another thread, I saw mention that you are running WDSC v5. I think
the location of the 'User Key Actions' preference might be different
than what it on the wiki. If you poke around a bit you should be able
to find it based on the v7 info.

Good luck,
Adam

Re: If - Else - Endif advise

Ouch!!

You DID have the entitlement when V5R1 was supported - I'd think it
should be possible to get the upgrade, but I don't sell the stuff.
Others here might know how to do this. I can ask one of our guys
about it. We do sell hardware now, too.

Good luck!

Another thing to think about. It sounds like you are tagging lines
after the fact. If that's the case, consider record/playback.

Position the cursor to the first column of the line.
Edit->Keystroke Recorder->Start (or use the green icon in the toolbar)
Type the characters you wish to record. Include the 'Home' key to move
back to column 1, and the 'cursor down' key to move to the next line.
Edit->Keystroke Recorder->Stop (or use the red icon in the toolbar)
Now play back your recording. I'd use the green arrow icon, but you can
also Edit->Keystroke Recorder->Playback

Try doing multiple Playback operations in a row to see how they sort of
chain together. Undo (Ctrl-Z) works with this technique, so if you go
too far you can always back up.

Re: If - Else - Endif advise

Why not just order the V5R4 upgrade, which should come with WDSCi 7.0 now?
You don't have to install V5R4 until you're ready; just find a spot to store
the boxes.

Shortcut to iSeries Parsers

I use the Add signature to changed lines in ILE RPG parsers to track my changes.
There are often times that I change a line to comment out code (the standard here is to comment out code being
changed and add new lines with the new code) that I do not want to use this function.
Currently, I have to go to Window/Preferences/Remote Systems/Remote System/iSeries Parsers in order to
check/uncheck the add signature box.
Is there any way I can setup a shortcut to this function?

Thanks,

Re: If - Else - Endif advise

I spoke to my superior after reading your post and was told that an upgrade
to V5R4 may cost approximately a million dollars due to the number of boxes.
As a consolation he did tell me that it was scheduled to upgrade our last
box to V5R2...doh...

Re: If - Else - Endif advise

Are they charging for upgrades now? I've been out of the administration
side for a number of years, so if I missed something, I apologize. It's
just that it always used to be free (or only a nominal media charge) as long
as you were current on software maintenance.

Before giving up, though, is the cost of the upgrade for just one system
prohibitive? As I suggested before, you don't need to install it, either on
that one system or company wide - just get the media, install WDSCi 7 on PCs
or server, and then store the boxes somewhere.
