Collapsing a tree node in RSE

Is there a way to collapse an expanded tree node in the Remote Systems
view? When I have expanded a source file with a large number of source
members, and I want to collapse the node, in order to keep the view
manageable, I have to go up to the start of the node, and then click the
minus sign. It would be nice if a node could be collapsed by
right-clicking somewhere in the expanded node and then selecting an option
'Collapse'. Can this be arranged in some way?

RE: WDSc workstation requirements

 >> maybe I have an extremely capable laptop, but heres the specs:

Guess they have skinnied down the requirements for the latest version then.
The last time I tried on a small laptop, the message that came up said that
you must have a minimum of 512Mb.

How do you - easily switch between tasks / projects in websphere?

I want to easily switch between tasks / projects in websphere.
Is anyone using websphere to achieve this?

I generally have multiple different tasks or projects in my
work queue that I might be working on.

I might be working on task A, but have to stop for whatever
reason, and switch working to task B or task C.

Each task may involve editing from 3 to 12 different source
members that may or may not be in the same library.
ie. source members; CL, DDS, RPG, UIM, etc.

What I'd like to do is to be able to switch between different
tasks easily.

With my old pc-based editor (FlexEdit) I simply switched
between "workspaces" to achieve this. With just a mouse
click I could switch from working on an ftp project to
working on an orders report fix. The members I was editing
came back just the way I had left them, windows were in
the same position etc.

In websphere I've read where 'projects' must be in a
single 'sandbox' library so I don't see that this is what I want.

>From what I read 'perspectives' apply to whether you're
working on rpg, java etc.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Re: Collapsing a tree node in RSE

Ewout,

Like in most trees in a GUI you can use the arrow key (left) to go to the node.
Press the arrow key once more and the node is collapsed.

Joep,

Thanks very much. I had never noticed this GUI-feature!

RE: CL Formatting, was WDSc workstation requirements

How would Ernie's program reformat this:
SAV DEV(&SAVDEV) +
         OBJ(('/*') +
             ('/QSYS.LIB' *OMIT) /* Saved with SAVLIB */ +
             ('/QDLS' *OMIT) /* Saved with SAVDLO */ +
             ('/QCA400' *OMIT) /* iSeries access updates */ +
             ('/QFileSvr.400' *OMIT) /* 400-to-400 mapping */ +
             ('/QOPT' *OMIT) /* Optical drives */ +
             ('/QPWX*' *OMIT) +
             ('/QTCPTMM' *OMIT) +
             ('/tmp' *OMIT) /* Temp data, avoid conflicts */ +
             ('/PSF400' *OMIT) +
             ('/PSFSMTP' *OMIT) +
             ('/QIBM/ProdData/InfoCenter' *OMIT)) +
         SAVACT(*YES) SAVACTOPT(*ALWCKPWRT) +
         OUTPUT(*PRINT) EXPDATE(&EXPDT) +
         ENDOPT(*LEAVE) UPDHST(*YES)
Which got reformatted to the yuck that SEU does? Try pasting that into
SEU and reformatting that with F4 and run it through Ernie's program.
Basically my point is not to rely on these types of tools.

RE: CL Formatting, was WDSc workstation requirements

This'll be a mess. it is stated in the article that this will not look good
- internal comments, etc. The tool, as many that were provided by MC in
those days, is a quick-and-dirty kind of thing.

An extension to the tool would be to put list items on separate lines, as
you show here. There's a lot of clarity in that arrangement. And to do a
few things that'd help scanning, like omit certain keywords. An example
could be the COND() keyword of the IF and ELSE commands. The following:

if (&lib *eq 'QTEMP') do
    /* run some code */
enddo

else if (&lib &eq 'QSYS') do
/* run some other code */
enddo

else do
/* still another set of commands */
enddo

scans better, IMO, than:

if cond(&lib *eq 'QTEMP') then(do)
    /* run some code */
enddo

else cmd(if (&lib &eq 'QSYS') then(do))
/* run some other code */
enddo

We are investigating Web Services. We are currently reading through the
Redpaper 'Enabling Web Services for the IBM eserver iSeries Server' and
trying to work with the example programs. In the book it tell us to install
the sample programs on the iSeries (which we have done). Then it says to
start the Socket Server by submitting a job (sbmjob cmd(call
pgm(itsows/main1)). What does this job do? Does it remain running and
monitor port 27850? If it doesn't remain running how can I monitor the
port?

Re: WDSCI-L

If it's a server it probably stays running and listens to port 27850 -
just a guess though.

Re: WDSCI-L

steve,

have you tried using the web services wizard in wdsc, to create a web
service from a simple javabean. I did that to get an understanding of what
was going on.

cheers
