Re: Fw: WDSc LPEX Macros

Phil has already mentioned the article "Extending the LPEX Editor in
WebSphere Development Studio Client 4.0"
URL: http://www.eservercomputing.com/iseries/articles/index.asp?id=538.

There is a follow-on article coming out in June. I will post the link once
it is published.

V5 Arrived! Should I install it?

I've just been given the CDs for V5. I'm largely using only the Code
Editor functions of V4, so am I liable to lose anything by installing the
new version? Liable to gain anything?

I am extremely curious to look at RSE in V5, but I understand there is a
service pack coming in a few weeks. Should I wait for that?

   (I'm running Win XP, SP1 on a 1.8 Ghz P4 with 256 mb.)

Re: V5 Arrived! Should I install it?

I would install it. Code/400 is still there and there are no updates for
it in the SP. Most of the updates are with web facing. Worst case is
that you still just use mostly Code/400.

RE: V5 Arrived! Should I install it?

IMO you will want to get another 256MB of RAM. I have WDSc 4.0, Win XP Pro
on a 2.0 GHz P4 with 512MB and I want to upgrade to 1GB of RAM. But I have
many things going at once when I am in WDSc (Java, RPG, XML, UML, etc).
But I also have a butt load of other software on my laptop that slows it
down some.

My copy is in the mail! I can't wait!

V5 Install Failure

I just made my first attempt at installing V5. So far, no success.

I have version 4 installed, but I have no projects that I want to migrate.

I started the install and it chunked away then said that it needed disk
   2. I removed disk 1, put in disk 2 and turned back to my screen. After a
few seconds it told me that I had the wrong disk and that it wanted disk
   1. Arrgh!

There appeared to be two installion processes running, but each seemed to
be wanting a different disk. I think the dialog that wanted disk 1 may
have been trying to warn me that I had V4 projects and wanted to know if I
wanted them migrated. At this point the dialogs all got confusing, or at
least they confused me, and I think there was one hidden behind that I
didn't find until later... Anyone, one finished and told me it wanted to
reboot, but since another was still running I told it no. Then the other
wanted disk 2, chunked away, then just finished. Not new menu items or
   icons or request to reboot.

I rebooted but still no menu items or icons. In Add/Remove programs I had
   a V5 entry.

It put in disk 1 again and told it to modify. It ran a bit then said it
was finished and nothing had changed.

So from Add/Remove programs I uninstalled the V5 entry. Took quite a
   while.

Good news is that V4 still works. I'll try a V5 install again tomorrow.

Re: V5 Install Failure

V5 and V4 cannot coexist so you may want to just uninstall V4 first. After
it completes, I like to manually delete the C:\WDSC folder which invariably
is left behind. I also clean up any environment variables with C:\WDSC in
them.

Then do the V5 install. I believe that V5 will attempt to do the
uninstall, but as you have seen it takes a VERY long time.

Re: V5 Install Failure

   The saga continues:

Uninstalled everything that I cound find that related to WDSC.

Started a new install. Generally went smoothly, but:

   1) After disk 2 it asked for disk 1 again, then asked for disk 3. I did
what I was told and it continued.
   2) At various times when waiting for a disk an annoying Windows dialog
pops up, just to confuse things. I ignored them.

   Install completed!

Now I have it running and I'm trying to comply with this bit of the readme
   file to upgrade to 5.0.1:

   * Important: After you install the product, you need to use Update Manager
to update WebSphere Studio Site Developer (your base WebSphere Studio
     product) to Version 5.0.1:

         Update Manager.

         string: wssd. For example, "com.ibm.wssd.prod_5.0.1".

         Feature Search Results view.

Point 4 causes eye strain (but I struggled through...)

Re: V5 Install Failure

Do you use an HTTP Proxy? If so, then Update Manager does not work in
this version as it does not have proxy support.

You can just download a big zip file and do the install from a local
update site, just as you do for WDSC.

Re: V5 Install Failure (how to get 5.0.1)

Hi Sam,
when we wrote the README, we described what we thought how things would
work. Now there have been some discoveries over the last couple of weeks
that we didn't expect, unfortunately for the fixpack 5.0.1 the Update
manager doesn't function as described..
I suggest to go to this web site and follow the instructions on this page,
it has the 5.0.1 updates needed, and the instructions how to apply 5.0.1.

Re: V5 Install Failure (how to get 5.0.1)

Thanks Claus. I think I managed to get it done. The Help/About still
says Version 5.0, but the build has changed to 20030424_1135.
