use existing session/window?

Hello,

How do I get an existing session/window of cream to be used when opening
a new document using r-click "Edit with cream"[0] or from a batch
file[1]? As it is now it tries to open a new session and then there are
a bunch of errors as it discovers .swp files. I have cream 0.42 with vim
7.2.245 installed on Windows XP x64 with auto-update run regularily. I
upgraded cream a few days ago, I didn't notice what the old version was
but vim was 7.1. I didn't have this problem before upgrading.

[0] Registry entry for "Edit with cream"
   Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
   [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell]
   [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell\Cream]
    <at> ="Edit with Cream/&Vim"
   [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell\Cream\Command]
    <at> ="\"c:\\local\\vim\\vim72\\gvim.exe\" \"-u\"
\"c:\\local\\vim\\vim72\\cream\\creamrc\" \"-U\" \"NONE\"
\"--servername\" \"CREAM\" \"%1\""

[1] cream.bat:
    C:\local\vim\vim72\gvim.exe "-u" "c:\local\vim\vim72\cream\creamrc"
"-U" "NONE" "--servername" "CREAM" %*

thanks :)

setting swap file location

Hi,

I'm trying to have Cream use "C:\Temp" for swapfiles instead of the
folder the file being edited is in. I've created "C:\Documents and
Settings\myusername\.cream\cream-user.vim" with the following content,
but it is not being honoured:

   let g:CREAM_SWP = "C:/TEMP"

I also tried:

   let $CREAM_SWP = "C:/TEMP"

I know cream-user.vim is being processed because if I put garbage in
there is an error on startup, "E492: Not an editor command: ..."

Thinking there might be some leftovers from upgrading (see previous
message) I uninstalled Cream+Vim, deleted %HOMEPATH%\.cream, and
reinstalled. No change.

Am I seeing a bug, or doing something wrong?

cheers,

Vim is VERY picky about path format on Windows, did you try "C:\\TEMP"
and also confirm that the case is correct? Also make sure it isn't
trying to use the "dir /x" type of shortname directory name.

What version did you upgrade from, was it recent? (Just trying to figure
out if this is something that hasn't been broken for a long while.)

Hmmm, not sure. I'll have to check it on my Windows XP x64 box
tomorrow morning, but I'd guess something about the path. Can you
verify these are clean file locations without any .swp files prior to
starting Cream?

Re: setting swap file location

Good news,

I deleted the EditWith registry entries which did _not_ have Wow6432Node
in the branch path, by the expedient of prefacing the lines with a
negative and then 2x-clicking on them (attached). This seems to have
fixed the swap exists error, and markedly improved EditWith response time.

Now there's just problem of putting the swap files in %temp% instead of
adjacent to the file.

cheers,

Menu bar disappeared

Hey,

I'm currently using ubuntu, and have been using cream for a few weeks.
Today, I tried to open a group of seven files and received some odd
errors, resulting in only three of the files being opened and some odd
behavior (open, format, and some other functions weren't working). So,
I closed the editor and reopened it to find that there was no menu bar
(file, edit, view, etc.). I tried removing the package, renaming the
.cream folder, but I was unable to get the menu bar back. Anyone have
any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

At the commandline [Ctrl+L, :]

  :guioptions+=m

How are you opening a group of files? Cream initializes with the menu
off to improve startup speed, but then turns it back on via autocmd.
For some reason, the startup does not appear to be complete, it fails
before the initialization autocmds finish.

Re: Menu bar disappeared

Thanks for your reply!

I tried running the ':guioptions+=m' in command mode, but I keep
getting 'E492: Not an editor command'. Please let me know if I'm doing
something wrong here.

I opened the group of files, by selecting all of them in nautilus and
using the 'open with' option in the command menu. Do you think maybe
since cream didn't finish initializing properly and didn't turn the
menu back on, when I closed it, that wrote the setting back out
somewhere?.....Ok, I just checked gvim, and I'm seeing the same thing
there, I'll check out my vimrc file when I get a chance.

Thanks again!
Bryan

Re: Menu bar disappeared

I found that you meant ':set guioptions+=m', which seems to behave
correctly (i.e. doesn't give a failure message), but does not return
the menu bar. I tried this in both gvim and cream, and it didn't work
for either.

Thanks,
Bryan

PS. I tried 'set guioptions+=T' and that added the toolbar, as well
'-=' removed it. So maybe something else is blocking the menu?

Re: Menu bar disappeared

Whoops, sorry that should have been:

  :set guioptions+=m

I don't find the Nautilus context menu very robust, it is apparently
sending the entire string of files to what Vim understands to be a
single argument. Not sure how to fix this, we were able to fix this
via extra quoting in Windows Explorer.
