Fixing wrong fonts in a PDF files (scripted or not)?

Hi,

I have got from our accountant this file generated by some Windows
accounting software. Unfortunately when opened in Evince there are some
pieces of text which are not shown and text is not completely legible
(the same goes for gs).

The file is available on
http://luther.ceplovi.cz/dav/PCF%20%C3%BA%C4%8Dtov%C3%BD%20rozvrh%20dopln%C4%9Bn%C3%AD-%20code%20682041.pdf

My colleague, who is one of maintainers dealing with Evince and poppler
(and who is on CC of this message) told me about the reasons why this
doesn't work correctly

The problem seems to be that poppler is getting a Type1 font
from fontconfig but the PDF asks for CID TrueType.

And apparently he cannot find a way how to workaround this well.

Another interesting piece of information is that LibreOffice Draw can
open the file and display all characters, albeit with a little bit wrong
metric (characters are bit shifted).

I wondered whether pdfedit would be able to somehow edit metadata in the
file and substitute some useful fonts for the one which are there now.
Of course, scripted solution would be even better.

When opening the file in pdfedit, some encoding (which is apparently
something Windowsy in the file) is wrong.

How do I delete revisions?

I have a pdf into which I accidentally saved a revision. Now every time
I look at that document with any other pdf viewer the revision is
included. Using pdfedit I can still look at the original document but I
need to remove that revision.

./configure problem [partly solved]

hi all,
my name is dwain. i'm new to compiling from source. i finally found a
linux flavor i can manipulate. i've been all over the internet seeking a
solution to my problem.

1. i know that pdfedit will not configure with qt4.
2. i know that qt4 support is on the way.
3. qmake is found, but not the correct one - looking for qt3

i've been at this "hacking" for several hours and i'm so close i can
taste it and thought i would ask a few questions.

i run antix (debian-wheezy). i have libqt4-qt3support installed. the lib
is a qt3 compatibility library for qt4. i also have qt3 downloaded ready
to install as a last resort.

here are the questions:

is there a way to use this to configure the software?
and if so, how is it written during ./configure?
or am i so far out in left field that i'm miles from the stadium? :-)

cheers

garbage characters produced when text extracted from i1040.pdf

When page 41 of:

    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040.pdf

has the text extracted (using menu item: Page-> Extract text from page
) and then first few lines(2 or 3) of the resulting "Text extracted
from page" is saved(using copy and paste) into another file
(attached), all the characters look garbled. Only a few lines were
attached to save space; however, all the extracted text looks nothing
like what appears in the top left window, which appears just like it
does when i1040.pdf is viewed with adobe9 reader.

How can the characters be correctly extracted?

TIA.

Larry

Re: confirm 5db11c828a90015cace45f9c08d1215968862031

 Hi,

I wanted to use pdfedit command line to change the "Title" of a pdf.  So someone has gone into thousands of pdf files and renamed them in windows, and now we wanted to change the "Title" that shows up (so when you open it in Acrobat, the title bar at the top shows the new file name).  I had written one using sed and sh in Cygwin that works for the non-binary pdf files, but it fails when the pdf is a binary file.  does someone have a command line example of how this can be done for one file (I can write the program or change the file)?

Thanks and regards,
Jim Doherty

Works in GUI, how do I script from terminal?

I have a program that creates a pdf file for mailing labels. (21 pages currently.) We will be required to print these at least monthly. This is the first day I have run into this. (It is a new version of the program.)

The problem is that the text prints just a little bit high so that a part of the first line is lost when the labels are peeled off and applied.

Using pdfedit, I was able to click one Set Page Transformation Matrix, then click on Translate (shift) page, from page 1 for 21 pages, then on the Page translation tab set ty to -10 and click OK.

This looks like it worked.

The thing is that I am not the person who needs to do this monthly and I would like to script this for them so that they drop the pdf in a net share and get the corrected pdf back in another share on in a web page.

Is there a way to run pdf edit from the cli and give it the pdf file in question and a script that will accomplish this? I have looked through the info I can find so far on the web and do not see a hint as to how I might do this in any fashion and I am really looking for a someple fashion if one exists.

all the best,

drew

Added Page Numbers to Document?

Hi All,

I created a PDF from a few smaller PDFs. I want to add page numbers.

I tried to locate a method to add page numbers through the man pages
and documents on use (http://pdfedit.cz/en/user_doc.html). But I was
not successful.

I took a few stabs in the dark by trying to script it though, but I
was not successful (I could not locate man pages on script commands).

Could anyone point out how to add page numbers?

Jeff

Edited PDF will not display on Kindle

Hi,
I can add text without issue.

If I delete part of a text everything below will not display on my Kindle.

If I add text with the Add Text button everything below that will not display.

This issue only applies to the pages I have edited.
All other pages before and after the edited page display normally.

In either case the PDF displays normally in PDF reader on my PC.

I note that existing text has many string parameters.
The edited or added text has none.
I have no idea what that means. I think it is the source of the problem.
If this is the problem I haven’t been able to fix it.

I’m using PDFedit 0.4.3 in Puppy Linux.
I got this from my distro’s repository.
I will not be able to obtain a later version.

Thank you for your help.

Find and mark text within a pdf document without gui

Hi <at> all,

Is it possible with pdfedit to find text within a pdf document and highlight it (yellow, red..) without opening a gui?

What I want to do:

In the first step I want to highlight the word “hello” within the document test.pdf

In the next step I want to highlight the word “hello” not only once, but every “hello” within the document.

The last step would be to have a list of words and/or phrases which would be searched, marked and highlighted within a document without opening a gui.

Is it possible to do this with the pdfedit library?

If a gui is necessary to edit the documents, how can I use the already available commands “search, multiselect and highlight” within a plugin?

Kind regards,

Thomas
