Some comments on http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Arabic which could be brushed up to the latest the current LyX version: 1: "If LyX doesn't correctly accept your keyboard input, open the menu Tools → Preferences to use a keyboard map as shown in this screenshot. Then click Save and restart LyX." to be substituted by "If LyX doesn't correctly accept your keyboard input, open the menu Tools → Preferences → Editing → Keyboard/Mouse to use a keyboard map as shown in this screenshot. Then click Save and restart LyX." The screen shot could be updated as well. Only minor changes. 2: "In Tools→Preferences→Language settings→Language, assure that "Right-to-left language support" is checked." I would appreciate comments on what "logical" and "visual" are for. 3: Using ArabTeX: - F12 to switch between Arabic and English does not work. How can that be amended? - The English text is underlined in blue. What does that mean? Using LyX 1.6.3 on WinVista. Thanks !!! /J.(Continue reading)

I described this now in the Wiki page in the section "Creating a shortcut to switch the language" and updated the page a bit. > - The English text is underlined in blue. What does that mean? A blue underline indicates that the text is in a different language than the document-wide language. This works for me here. In both modes the character is inserted where the cursor currently is. Is the RTL support activated? Have you restarted LyX after you changed the cursor mode? Concerning the cursor modes I've written this in the English UserGuide: Cursor movement When writing RTL, you can define if the left and right arrow keys moves the cursor visually to the left or right, respectively, or logically. Logical means that the cursor is moved to the left when pressing the right arrow key and the cursor is inside text in an RTL language. regards Uwe
