Yes. I just tried it quickly under XFCE, and it seemed better. But that 
was very quick.

The issue is definitely connected to the X11 clipboard, but there seem 
to be other issues, too. Sometimes I can make it happen, but not always.

I'll try the patch.

Backspace at the starting position inside deletes the charstyle.

Even for charstyles? They used to use a different open/close mechanism

Yes, just checked again: all-insets-toggle works for charstyles in 1.5. Here's 
the change:

This is _my_ bottom line indeed. The thing (menu entries) were removed 3 years 
ago. I don't remember any complaint about this, except for Bo's. Sorry, Bo, 
this is not enough reasoning to change the ui in a minor release; you can 
customize your ui.
