Some bugs I have noticed

Some things I notice, abiword 2.0.5 win2k.
  have associated the doc extensiom with abiword.

1. Some .docs when I double click do not render as a
  word document but see below for a snip of what i get:

{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0
{\fonttbl
{\f0\fswiss\fcharset0\fprq2\fttruetype Verdana;}
{\f1\fswiss\fcharset0\fprq2\ftnil NULL;}
{\f2\fswiss\fcharset0\fprq2\ftnil Dingbats;}
{\f3\froman\fcharset0\fprq2\fttruetype Symbol;}
{\f4\fswiss\fcharset0\fprq2\fttruetype Arial;}
{\f5\froman\fcharset0\fprq2\fttruetype Times New Roman;}
{\f6\fmodern\fcharset0\fprq1\fttruetype Courier New;}}
{\colortbl......

2. Most .docs when double clicked cause abiword to crash upon
opening - I submitted a bugzilla with the drwatson log - and
was told via bugzilla it is a know bug and being worked on.

3. If I open abiword itself and then drag over .doc's, most
  of them will not open. I get an error message: "mypaper.doc
is not a currently supported file type." And the file can not
be viewed. Again .doc is associated w/abiword and all the files
have the ant icon after I associated them(?)

4. If I right click then say "open with" abiword I have better
success at getting .doc's to render. I noticeed something weird,

AbiWord 2.0.6 binaries for Windows should be available very soon. It
will take care of many of the issues you're experiencing regarding open
documents with any method other than opening AbiWord and selecting "File
-> Open". There was a bug in how the installer registered AbiWord to
open documents from the Windows shell.

Please try 2.0.6 once it's released and if you're still seeing bugs you
have not yet reported, file a bug report at http://bugzilla.abisource.
com.

Thanks!

You can get them now from

https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=15518

The public release will follow soonish.

I downloaded and installed abiword-setup-2.0.6.exe on top
of 2.0.5. the installed went OK. But when I do "about abiword"
it still says 2.0.5 and the bugs previously cited all still exist.

So, maybe I can't install a new ver. over an old ver. i should be
able too - so imho this is another bug. I'm going to uninstall the whole
whole thing and reinstall 2.0.6. On the other hand could there
be a maistake at sourcefore and what says 2.0.6 is really 2.0.5?
I downloaded from the Uof MN mirror - most of the others are
bottlenecked from my point on the net.

Ok I uninstalled abiword then clean reinstalled 2.0.6.
And the double click bug is fixed perfectly on my PC.
All the other possible bugs I previously cited still exist.
Should I bugzilla any of these?

If I open abiword itself and then drag over .doc's, most
of them will not open. I get an error message: "mypaper.doc
is not a currently supported file type." And the file can not
be viewed. Again .doc is associated w/abiword and all the files

and

If I right click and say open with abiword one particular document
renders as below (double clicking it renders it corectly)

{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0
{\fonttbl
{\f0\fswiss\fcharset0\fprq2\fttruetype Verdana;}

Filing all of them would really helpfull: they will most likely be
forgotten otherwise (please report 1 bug per 'report').

All of them seem to be bugs indeed, and should be trivial to fix.

Thanks for your help!

The "unsupported file type" on drag bug I have also experienced under
Windows. Please email me with the bug number once you've filed it. Thanks.

Opem a file

I have installed Abi on a drive other than "C" in Win98.
I also keep all of my work files in the same directory.
However, when I select "file" then "open", Abi takes me directly to "my
documents" in "C" drive.
How can I change this to my working directory ?

RE: Opem a file

What version of AbiWord are you using? You may wish to try to upgrade
to the latest version of AbiWord (2.0.6 is now available for the win32
platform) if you're not already using it. My "file -> open" takes me to
the last place I saved a file to or opened a file from and this setting
is saved even if I close Abi and reopen it.

RE: Opem a file

Thanks for the tip Mikey, but I already have 2.0.6
This problem has always driven me nuts back several versions.
Mine seems stuck on "my documents" because even if I finish a letter
and save it to my work file on drive "E" and then decide to go right back on it
to change something - - File and Open takes me right to "my documents"
on drive C, and not to my work directory.
Any other clues ??
Thanks
