This program is external to abiword. You got it from
http://abiword.pchasm.org and that is where you need to ask.

You will have to ask Jeremy Davis about it, he is the only person likely
to know anything about it.

Sorry, I wasn't ignoring you, I just never saw the original email and it
isn't in my email folder for abiword-user either.

Please email me directly (jeremyd <at> computer.org) what version of
AbiWord.exe you have and what version of the nightly downloader
you have. Both should be available by right clicking on the
executable in an explorer window and looking at the version tab.
Also please include what version of Windows you are running.

The nightly downloader requires AbiWord.exe to be from the head
branch as the stable (1.0.x) versions and earlier do not include
the version resource (which is what it is looking for). I can
provide a better response ( and may ask you to run a special
version that provides more details with why the Windows call is
failing) once I know what versions you presently have. If you
can help me determine why the call is failing I will provide
an updated version. Anyway, back to my CD driver ...

Thanks,

Re[2]: Testing latest Win32 builds

For those experiencing similar issues in the future:

The nightly downloader (Win32) relies on the FILEVERSION
structure embedded in AbiWord.exe to obtain what version one
currently has. (This is the same resource that Windows
uses to display information when you select properties;
version tab.) However, this resource is only available
in current development builds and will not be in a stable
series until the upcoming 2.0 builds. While not recommended,
I have updated it so if one uses its /force option, it
will ignore the failure getting the current version and
download the latest nightly build; this will allow those
wanting to, the ability to update a stable build or corrupt
build (or even no build).

Move on to windows!

I've suffered exactly the same fate: rpms that required bunches of dependencies that again required
basically installing the latest RedHat release to my Suse 8.0. Compilation (configure && make) led to

installing the tar.gz

I have to correct my yesterday's take on installing AbiWord on linux. I did not compile, I tried to install
rpm packages, the difficulty of which made me install a 1.0.2 version that I got from http://www.usr-local-bin.org/

So I try to compile 1.0.6, the stable version that Dom has recommended to use. After having extracted the
tar.gz to the install directory I miss a configure file:

Re: installing the tar.gz

We forgot to run autogen.sh before releasing the tar ball - sorry.
Please type "./autogen.sh" in the abi directory - you will need to have
autoconf and automake installed.

Regards, Frank

Excellent! It runs perfectly with spellchecker and everything. I think my Suse system likes compiling
better than rpm management.

Thank you so much for your help.

Fonts rendering on screen

Now that I've installed the AbiWordtar.gz and the software is running nicely on my system I would like to
improve the rendering of the fonts. The appearance is like on the Gtk-Gnome screenshots on http://www.abiword.org/screenshots/.

However I would like to have a rendering like on the AbiWord-2.0 GNOME Screenshot.

My question is now if this has to do with libraries (then I'd like to know what I am likely to miss) or if it is a
font installing topic, which leads me to the question how and where fonts can be installed.

Another question is anti-aliasing. I may remember having seen this feature in the Win version, but don't
find it in my Linux version (1.0-6).

Thanks,

Jost
