Posts to new ryppl.devel group not getting through

Hi there,

On Fri, 9 November, I subscribed the ryppl.devel mailing list.

I got a notification on 11th November that the group was added and would be
populated when the next message arrived.

Although there were several messages, the group was not actually created on
gmane until yesterday (19th Nov).

Still, when I post to the list either through knode nntp client or through
the website, the message does not arrive. I also do not receive the usual
mail from gmane to confirm that I exist, due to sending a message to that
list for the first time.

We don't know of anything that could cause that on the mailing list side:

 http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.programming.tools.ryppl.devel/8

Can anyone help us find out what is going on?

Thanks,

Steve.

Web traffic

I've been running Webalizer on Gmane for yonks, but it's kinda outdated
now. (It doesn't identify all the robots very reliably, for instance.)

So I ran awstats on the past week to see what's really up.

Gmane is pushing out around 20GB worth of stuff via the web interfaces
per day. About half of that is spiders, which is less than I had
imagined.

Excluding the robot traffic, there's about 340K pages viewed per day,
and about 1.7M hits. I guess all those little picon images and stuff
add up. :-)

There's about 100K unique visitors per day, so that means that each
visitor looks at three pages.

Googlebot downloads 1M pages from Gmane per day, while Bing downloads a
tenth of that.

One really weird thing is that post.php is viewed 100K times per day by
non-robot users. That seems pretty absurd, and points to those not
being real users. There's 50K POSTs to that page per day, of which
99.99% are rejected, I guess, so that must be some kind of spambot
thing...

"sort | uniq -c | head" of the POSTs to post.php shows this:

  10608 222.187.222.104
   7797 65.60.32.44
   7651 184.154.149.2

gmane.org.clubs.dba.main gone?

I had this group working briefly. I set it up in slrnpull.conf on Oct 19 and
fetched articule every night normally (when there was anything to fetch) until
it went slightly weird on Oct 29:

10/29/2012 03:03:14 Fetching articles for gmane.org.clubs.dba.main.
10/29/2012 03:03:14 gmane.org.clubs.dba.main: Retrieving articles 8628-8628.
10/29/2012 03:03:14 gmane.org.clubs.dba.main: No articles in specified range.

Then on Nov 13 it got even more weird:

11/13/2012 03:04:36 Fetching articles for gmane.org.clubs.dba.main.
11/13/2012 03:04:36 ***Authorization needed, but could not determine username /
password.

When I try to visit the group in the web interface it tells me "no such group".
Is there a problem or was the list removed?

Reactivation of mailing-list-archive

Hey

I'm the chairman of AlslLUG that once have our mailing-list mirrored to
gmane, but that hasn't workd for a couple of years.

None of our 4 groups work anymore:
	gmane.org.user-groups.linux.alslug.announce
	gmane.org.user-groups.linux.alslug.misc
	gmane.org.user-groups.linux.alslug.novice
	gmane.org.user-groups.linux.alslug.teknik

How do I get the connection back online?

It was setup by some member meny years ago, and stoped working for
unknown reasons.

How someone can help me gettings things running again.

Blocked?

Hello,

I seem to be having the issue mentioned intermittently here where I'm
asked for a username to connect to Gmane. I normally connect to
Gmane's TLS service at news.gmane.org:563. For the past 48 hours or
so, connecting to Gmane via Gnus I am unable to fetch the active file
and am asked for a username if I try to load a group. However, if I
call "openssl s_client -connect news.gmane.org:563 -CAfile
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt -no_ssl2 -ign_eof" from the command
line to try to connect to gmane, I get what looks like a convincing
TLS handshake, followed by:

200 news.gmane.org InterNetNews NNRP server INN 2.5.1 ready (posting
ok)

Is this the symptom of being in a banned IP block, or is something
else going on?

Thanks for your attention, WGG

please fix gmane.comp.php.doctrine.user

gmane.comp.php.doctrine.user appears broken.

  http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.php.doctrine.user

Will an admin of doctrine-user <at> googlegroups.com please confirm that the
Gmane user is subscribed?

Will a Gmane admin please confirm your side is configured correctly?

Would it be possible to lift the block on *.suse.de?

TeliaSonera Finland blocked

Hello,

It seems that pretty much all TeliaSonera Finland's broadband customers
(*.dhcp.inet.fi) are currently blocked from the awesome Gmane NNTP interface. Is
there any chance of removing that block? Pretty please with sugar on top?

avoiding direct email from replies to list

I'm new to gmane and I think it's fantastic.

One of the reasons I started using gmane is that with mailing lists, one
receives a bunch of mail that needs to be kept organized, and more
importantly, one receives direct replies that don't appear on the list.
Direct replies start offline subthreads and nobody else gets to
participate in those.

Now, I believe that I set up the headers for email encryption. But I'm
receiving direct email replies to posts made through gmane.

I want to do all my interaction on the lists/groups, without any offline
subthreads resulting from direct mail. Is there an additional header I
can use to achieve that? Is it allowable to set my email to
"nomail@..." or something? Is the best solution to set up an
ignore-mail filter to recognize and toss what has come through the
encrypted email address?

How do others handle this, or do they? TIA.
