Updated, thanks! (It will take a while for the updated information to be visible
on the web interface.)

"How search.gmane.org works" talk

I gave a talk about the Gmane search implementation at the "Search Event"
(http://searchevent.org/) in Cambridge, UK at the end of September, and a
revised version at Wellington (NZ) Perl Mongers earlier this week. Here are
the slides from the more recent version in case anyone is interested:

I'll be presenting it again (with further tweaks) at the Data Storage and
Retrieval miniconf at LCA2010 in Wellington, New Zealand in January 2010:

Subject prefix on gmane.music.equipment.slimdevices.general

The group gmane.music.equipment.slimdevices.general has a the subject
prefix "[slim] " (without the quotes).

Could that be suppressed, please?

Interesting overview. Thanx for posting it.

Waiting for posting challenge on gmane.music.equipment.slimdevices.general

I sent my first posting ever to gmane.music.equipment.slimdevices.general
earlier today. I still haven't seen any challenge email.

Has my posting arrived at gmane? Has the challenge been sent, and not
arrived in my inbox yet, for some reason?

Thanx.

Can gmane gate two mailing lists during a mailing list switch?

See
 http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.subversion.devel/116023
 nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.subversion.devel/116023

The question is: can gmane continue to gate two mailing lists during a
mailing list switch?

Hm... when the switch is made the new list will become the list posted
messages are sent to. And the gmane group will continue to receive
messages from the old list, indistinguishable from any regular poster.

The question is then: will these messages be sent to the new list? And
is that acceptable behaviour? Will there be challenges sent, before
they are passed on to the new list? If so, to whom? To the address
gmane is subscribed with? To the list itself? To the original poster?

Are there possibilities of mail loops?

Yes (AFAIK. Lars, correct me if I'm wrong): I'll subscribe the group to
the new list, but mark the old list address as an "alias", which should
make mail coming in from there show up in the group, but nothing more.

Please let me know when the new list is set up and ready to take
subscription requests.
