Google not indexing Gmane a lot?

I just tried the following search:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=gnu++site%3Ablog.gmane.org&btnG=Search

That's not a whole lot of results.  Is Google doing some kind of
new-fangled filtering?

Meanwhile, the webalizer page shows that Google is responsible for 50%
of the http hits on Gmane, so this doesn't quite add up...

I've tried so many times, and since it doesn't seem to work, I guess
it's just not going to work.  Must be something wrong on the Google

Don't the blog.gmane.org pages have a meta-tag telling robots 'noindex'?

 $ lynx -source http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general | grep meta
 <meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow">
 $

If I do this search instead:

 http://www.google.com/search?q=gnu+site:gmane.org&hl=en&start=10&sa=N

I get around 37100 hits.

(Which still isn't a lot, compared to 60 million emails, but way more
than 1...)

Oops.  :-)

I guess I wanted Google to only list either the blog pages or the
non-blog pages, but not both?  Er...  wouldn't it make more sense to
have Google index the blog pages and not the article pages?

I think I'll remove that META for now, at least...

I don't like the blog pages much, so I would prefer them not to appear.

Then again, I seldomly use Google to search at gmane.org -
search.gmane.org seems better for that - so my opinion is of no
consequence :-)

Apropos those robot tags: Is it easily feasible and okay with you to
have a new property for lists that says that all pages containing
articles of this list has a nofollow,noindex tag on them?  By
default off of course, it would help getting acceptance for listing
on Gmane.

So far, only osdir has copied Gmane (and seemingly, has stalled).
In Germany, a new sport is gaining popularity, namely to get as few
Google hits as possible.  :-(

Yeah, but in a Google "custom search engine" I
prefer to find articles on Gmane instead of in
the original (IETF) archives.  Those beautiful
picons, threads over several lists, less spam,
or if not a way to report it, ...

The trick to get only one view (I like article
best, permalink has a far too small font) could
be noindex,follow instead of noindex,nofollow.
