Reply-To list => Followup-To list

Hi, some lists do weird stuff with the redistributed mail
like adding footers or subject tags, and generally GMaNe
manages to hide these oddities.

But it does not yet invalidate a bogus Reply-To: List set
by the list. Can GMaNe replace it by X-Reply-To, please ?

Simple UAs offer Re:news (=> to list on this side of GMaNe)
and Re:mail (=> private mail to From), maybe also Re:both
(= "posted+mailed", here emulating a courtesy copy).

But a given Reply-To of course trumps the From in replies,
as it should, Reply-To is user territory always set by the
author or (original) sender. If a list forges a Reply-To
to itself "Re:mail" does not more work as expected.

GMaNe could fix this oddity. If a Reply-To matches any
known list address(es) replace it by X-Reply-To, or if
possible by Followup-To.
                        Bye, Frank

P.S.: the details of "if possible by Followup-To" could
be the fun stuff from a gateway operator's POV ;-)

No. Whether to have a Reply-To pointing to the list is up to the list
admin.

Maybe, and while I disagree it's something I'd discuss with the
list admin. But it's certainly a kludge used for mail, and on
this side of GMaNe we have news, where this kludge is useless,
at worst harmful. It could make sense for an "unidirectional"
group, and then it could be you who inserts it, but behind the
normal "bidirectional" gateway I don't see a technical purpose
of a "Reply-To: list" in news.

For what it's worth, I agree completely.

gmane.comp.tv.xmltv.general has no articles via NNTP although there are
plenty of them in weblog.

I should really take a look at logs whenever I am tempted to ask somewhere
for help :-( Too small expire time in leafnode configuration file. Sorry.

Blast from the past, I know. Are you still looking to speed up the
stats gathering?

If so, could you publicly post a chunk of DAT that I could run the
program over? I could randomly generate something, but it wouldn't
necessarily match reality very well.

update result page

Hi, *_after_* updating the info for a list I arrived at
http://gmane.org/info.php?group=gmane.ietf.tools&edit=t

(Won't work now, pre-edit URL is the same as post-edit)

The post-edit page is apparently "under construction",
its left column with the links says:

  18968977evhdb
  eghgerfgeg8grhgg
  ehgjjhje0beg
[...]

The links are fine. And it's not ROT-13 ;-) Bye, Frank
