Starting to rename groups

I think I might now have the means to rename groups while the news
server is running, so I'll try renaming some groups. If Gmane
suddenly falls over, you'll know why. :-)

Re: Starting to rename groups

And the Great Renaming is now finished. It was a bit fiddlier than I
had anticipated, but I think it should all be working now...

Spam/unspam approval interface

I've now written a web-based interface for approving spam/unspam
reports. It's quite simple -- it presents you with a list of hosts
that have reported a message as spam/unspam, displays the message
itself, and presents two buttons that says "Approve" and "Reject".
So you basically just look and click.

I don't think we need hyper-security for this interface, but it needs
to be password-protected. Although everybody will share the same user
name and password. If you want to be an approver/rejecter, just send
me a mail and I'll send you the user name and password.

Search engines

I think it's about time that a proper search engine was slapped onto
the Gmane spool. I tried running swish++ on it, but 1) it didn't
really scale very well, and 2) the results were quite unsatisfactory.

Anybody got any ideas?

I skimmed through the FAQ, and I didn't see anything about indexing
mail/news -- it only talks about HTML, text and PDF. And it seems to
use a web spider approach to gathering pages? Which isn't optimal...

The ideal indexer for Gmane is something that can be run
incrementally -- whenever a new message arrives in Gmane, it should
be fed to the indexer, which would then be able to answer a search
(almost) immediately... I envision a kinda daemon-like indexer that
eats documents continually...

Found no problems so far. When is the "move" file processed? Every day
or manually?

It's a process that could quite likely fail, and it involves shutting
down exim (for a while) and inn (twice, but very shortly), so it's
something that has to be done manually, just to keep an eye on it...

Okay, so I just edit "move" and notify you?

Nope, it isn't working yet.

gmane.comp.make.general
gmane.comp.make.bugs

Both not working yet.

  Thanks,
