Re: high john root....

The scientific name for High John Root is Exagonium purga.

It is also sometimes listed as Ipomea purga. However, since the scientific
naming system uses Genus species format, Ipomea purga is from a different
genus of plant and not the same.

Other names for High John Root are High John the Conquerer Root, Conquerer's
Root, Convolvulus Jalapa, Jalap, Jalop, Jaloop, Calystegias, Shepherd's
Clock, Cornbind, Ropebind, Withywood, Bearwind, Jack-run-in-the-country, and
Devil's Garters. Some of these common names are NOT the true High John
Root, but belong to similar or convergent species.

It is native to South America and Mexico. High John is a member of the
morning glory family, and a relative of the common sweet potato. It is
aclimbing convolvulaceous plant with crimson-purple flowers and a woody,
tuberous root, which was once of medicinal value. The tubers, varying in
size from a walnut to an orange, are dark, umber-brown in colour and very
wrinkled.
Fresh John the Conqueror root has a unique, spicy fragrance, reminiscent of
a combination of cherry-scented pipe tobacco, vetivert, cedarwood, cinnamon,
allspice, nutmeg, and mace. High John was traditionally used to cure
constipation, however it is an irritant to the digestive system and can have
severe side effects. It was also used by the Aztec to bring on ritual
hallucinations when prepared in specific manner. It can be very toxic and
dangerous, so internal use is no longer recommended.

Roots of common, blue morning glories can be substituted for High John root
in some magical practices/traditions.

I was unable to locate any information on growing it or where to get seeds.

You were not grouchy at all, at least not that I could tell. I
really did want to discuss more with you, but Mom was with us.

She is a saint, truly. If, when I am blessed with children, I am
half the mother she is, I will think myself as doing a good job. She
tries very hard to be open minded, but she is Irish Catholic at
heart. (My childhood fears of Voodoo and WitchCraft originated with
her.) Out of respect for her, I limit my conversations in front of
her. I have a hard time figuring out what is offlimits with her and
tend to over-censor myself. She has seen eath-bound spirits and is
extremely sensitive to energies. (BTW, she liked you, said you
seemed "really neat" and had a "cool vibe".) She also believes that

Glitch

I just noticed the header in my last post.

--- In arealvoodooclub <at> yahoogroups.com, "(I dont disclose this
online)" <dawnagl <at> b...>

I updated my profile last night (it still said that I'm 27, I'm
actually 31, but changed it to 32 so that I don't have to update it
again in a few months), and in the "real name" field, I wrote "(I
don't disclose this online)" and listed Lady Aradian as my nickname.
(Let's face it, my legal name is not Lady Aradian, that is my Craft
name, so I'm trying to be truthful in my profile.) I've made other
posts today, but the last post was the first time my name changed in
the group header.

That's a bit odd.

You repost people's private emails, Kevin.

And it's easy to deal with - remember last month with all your
vulgarities and obscenities? I just point yahoo's abuse teams at
your posts, and POOF! "nymagickman" exists no more in yahoo's cyber-
mind, right?

Don't repost people's private emails, Kevin.

Racine is just stung because she got thrown off American Voodoo
Forum for her misbehavior... and because Paypal has shut down her
"Vodou Aid" buttons until she can provide the proper documentation.
(I suppose that little chat with the State of Massachusetts and the FTC...
as well as comments about "money laundering" ... helped to persuade
them this was the Right Thing To Do).

She's going to keep hopping up and down and pretending she isn't
the only bad dog in the kennel... but, of course, her temper tantrums
don't really matter. She still can't Beg For Dollars using Paypal, and
she still can't post to American Voodoo Forum. (And, if she keeps on
spamming various forums and attracting complaints, she will wind
up losing her access to the Jacmel webcafe from whence she posts
her spam).

I suspect Racine has realized this, and will begin limiting her postings
to her moderated forums in the future. She had best hope that none of
her many enemies are on those moderated forums, and that they don't
decide to forward her material to the appropriate parties. ;)

Peace

Re: Reposting Private Emails to Public Forums

It is not always right to do everything you have a right to do! Most
people learn that in kindergarten.

Kevin, you might not be facing criminal charges this time, not for
reposting private emails. But it is wrong to do so. In fact, I have
seen you, on other forums, go ballistic at other people who had
reposted private emails, yours or someone else's. You claimed they
were disrespectful and that they had no right to do so. Since it is
wrong for other people to repost private emails, in your view (and in
mine!) then it is also wrong for YOU.

You stated that one should not email a person privately unless
one "trusts the person not to publish the email". Thus, you are not
to be trusted, apparently.

I think if Brian were to complain to yahoo or to your ISP, he would
get some action from them. It was easy enough for me to have
your "nymagickman" screen name kicked off yahoo for your filthy
language.

I understand that you have a mental illness, which makes you
extremely aggressive. In your aggressivity, you are willing to tell
any lie, utter any filthy vulgarity, attack any human being you
envy. And what has it done for you? You are not one whit happier or
saner than you were when you came to me in Haiti in 1999!

I told you then, at the time of your lave tet ceremony, when you were
going on about how we "saved your life" from Satanism and pornography
and perversion, that you must not backslide. But backslide you did.
That is your decision.

Vodou Aid Contributions

Do you never weary of lying?

PayPal shut down NOTHING. I myself took the clickable buttons off
the Vodou Aid page because I want a few days to go by that will
permit me to come to a full accounting. We will probably start
asking for contributions again before long, economic conditions here
in Haiti being what they are.

The other PayPal functions on my page, including The Vodou Emporium
at http://www.RootsWithoutEnd.com/emporium/emporium.html, are still
in service of course.

Mr. Howard sent aggressive, harassing emails to my private account.
In the best netiquette tradition, I reposted those emails and made
Howard the laughing stock he deserved to be. After a couple more
emails sent to my inbox... and more mockery at Howard's expense... he
got the idea and stopped sending me private email.

Indeed, I would have been within MY rights to send complaints to HIS
ISP for HIS invasion into my inbox. Instead, I took care of the
problem by laughing at him... much as I laugh at you for amusement's
sake. (When you venture into criminal misbehavior -- as you did with
your bogus "charity" -- it's easy enough to bring your antics to the
attention of the proper authorities, i.e. the State of Massachusetts,
Paypal, and the Federal Trade Commission).

In any event, since you have regularly revealed material you received
in confidence when your relationships with your suckers *ahem* clients
turned sour, you're hardly in any position to talk. So perhaps you
should shut your flapping hole while you are ahead, no?

Howard sent me abusive, harassing emails. I would have been well
within my rights to send complaints to his provider; instead, I took
care of the problem by mocking him publicly. This seemed to have the
desired effect; after he sent a few more emails, he realized he was
being laughed at and stopped sending abusive and unwelcome emails.

This is standard netiquette, and a well-accepted way of dealing with
harassing emails from net-stalkers. It's quite different from i.e.
revealing that one of your former clients suffers from mental illness,
was suicidally depressed, has a criminal record, etc.. You have done
all these things when your business relationships with former clients
