Okay, check this out - your ancestors LOVE you! And all ancestors, because
they were once living humans, have love for the whole of humanity.
If you have ancestors who you knew in life, who have now passed on, then you
can feed them and give them service. Even if you only know about them
through stories or photos, you can feed them. If none of the family you know
has yet died, congratulations! Ask your older folks about their
grandparents, and so on. If you are adopted, then you are really in luck
because you have twice as many immediate ancestors, the ancestors of your
adopted family and the ancestors of your biological family, and they all love
you.
If you have an ancestor who was a real stinker, a meanie, you still feed him
or her, and give service. Then you give that ancestor work to do protecting
you, fighting for you, you set them to guard the door of your house, you send
them to help out at that very competitive job interview.
So, here is the next thing I am recommending for people who plan to
participate in the upcoming ancestral service. Choose an ancestor, if you
can, and find out what that person liked to eat. If you really don't know
anything about any of your ancestors, adopt one from the cemetery, especially
an older cemetery where that person is no longer taken care of by living
relatives. Find out what they wore, where they lived, what kind of a house
they lived in, what work they did, what they did for fun. Find out
everything about them that you possibly can. Then, find that kind of food,
find paper dolls maybe, with that kind of clothing, or make an image. Find a
photo of them if you can. Buy toy objects that resemble the things they
liked to use in their life, things that represent the way they lived. Create
a collection that represents your understanding of the nature of that
person's life.
