Re: need help

You know, in Haitian Vodou there are no such things as "voodoo
dolls". Dolls, or poppets, are much more characteristic of European
folk magic, and this influence has entered the New Orleans Voodoo
tradition.

It's unlikely that an untrained person could do much with such a
doll, and if you feel that you are likely to be victimized by someone
who knows how to manipulate a doll to do magical work, there are
things you can do to cleanse and protect yourself.

Contact me privately if you are seriously interested.

Peace and love,

Re: Hi everyone

first of all remember i am not a hougan and therefore
cannot teach, but i will share what i have learned.

i'll just give you a quick run down as i have come
to understand it. it is a RELIGON that uses
archtypical forces in order to understand Bondye, the
absoloute god who is the sum of all things and is
incomprehensible to us at this level. in adition to
the archtypical forces or lwa voodoo incorperates
ancestor worship<which is neglected by most
americans>. it is not about curses and zombis, though
such things exist in the religon it is ussualy the
result of people who work with the left hand, called
bokor<or sorcerers, who use the lwa for there own
purposes rather than serving them>. for several
reasons voodoo is very secretive and difficult to
learn, as the teachings are considered secret. what
some people have learned is only a fraction of what
exists.<every where you go you will find
contradictions, but don't let that stop you, just keep
searching and you will find truth your self. and keep
in mind there are many "denominations" with contrary
views>
one of the most important subjects on the religion
is that of possesion. it is called being ridden, and
it is the temorary union between a practioner and a
lwa<often surpressing the persons ego completely>.
this is not veiwed as hostile or invasive but is seen
as a christian would so the holy ghost.
i hope i have been of some help if you would like to

Re: Hi everyone

First of all your response is deeply apriciated... After my post i
try to read as many postings as i was able to. What i understound
was that voodoo has the same principals with wicca. For example you
do not agree with love spells for the same reasons. & also there is
a god in everything. & some people are loosing their faith because
their spells do not seem to work. I hope you do not find my
comparison offending. I personally respect every theory or religion
that can help people progress. In the rituals do you use crystals or
an altar? & finally is this a religion that can be combined with my
knowledge so far?
Thank you again for your help

Re: Hi everyone

i personnaly beleive that all religons can be
combined and all knowledge carries on. in fact voodoo
was influnced by white pagans, as the appearance of
manam bridgett is considered proof<she is beleived to
be an import from the pagan pantheon, though i can't
rember what she used to be called>. alters are a
crucail aspect of the religon, they help us to form
relationships with the lwa.
spells are a touchy subject for me. i do
them...but to many people fail to understand them, and
that is why they fail. it is not a rigid format of
incantations, or magic gestures. it is a symbolic
plea to the lwa using sacred number, objects, songs
and colors to coax their cooperation. and as
everyones personal relationship with a particular lwa
is stronger then the mass produced ritual they should
be created by yourself for the lwa. that way you
think more of the lwa and they will apriciate that.
the one plus one equals too apraoch for spell is more
hoodoo<beter understood as spells> then voodoo<better
understood as prayers>.

The Ancestors and the Ancestral Lwa - Learning and Serving

It's wonderful to see so many people on the Vodou Arts forum
( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Vodou_Arts) developing an interest in the
ancestral lwa! I want to encourage this. :-) So, I am posting to other
forums, hoping that you will come visit us at Vodou Arts but also that each
forum will have discussion of these lwa which is appropriate to the focus of
the individual forum.

Let's first do a little reading - go to The VODOU Page and read these pages:

Vodou Lesson 2 - The Ancestors

Biography of a Lwa
http://members.aol.com/racine125/lwabio.html

The ancestral lwa are organized like a biological family. Maman Brigitte is
the mother, Baron La Croix is the father. Together they reclaim the souls of
deceased humans from "under the water", and rebirth them as Gede lwa. That
is why almost every Gede has the last name "La Croix", like their father.

There is one Gede lwa who is not a particular ancestor, and that is Brav Gede
Nibo. Maybe there is another Gede like that somewhere, but I haven't heard
of him. Almost all Gedes are male, but I have heard of a lwa called
"Gedelia", a female Gede. I don't know where she is served, I have never met

Service to the Ancestors - Getting to Know Your Ancestors

Okay, check this out - your ancestors LOVE you! And all ancestors, because
they were once living humans, have love for the whole of humanity.

If you have ancestors who you knew in life, who have now passed on, then you
can feed them and give them service. Even if you only know about them
through stories or photos, you can feed them. If none of the family you know
has yet died, congratulations! Ask your older folks about their
grandparents, and so on. If you are adopted, then you are really in luck
because you have twice as many immediate ancestors, the ancestors of your
adopted family and the ancestors of your biological family, and they all love
you.

If you have an ancestor who was a real stinker, a meanie, you still feed him
or her, and give service. Then you give that ancestor work to do protecting
you, fighting for you, you set them to guard the door of your house, you send
them to help out at that very competitive job interview.

So, here is the next thing I am recommending for people who plan to
participate in the upcoming ancestral service. Choose an ancestor, if you
can, and find out what that person liked to eat. If you really don't know
anything about any of your ancestors, adopt one from the cemetery, especially
an older cemetery where that person is no longer taken care of by living
relatives. Find out what they wore, where they lived, what kind of a house
they lived in, what work they did, what they did for fun. Find out
everything about them that you possibly can. Then, find that kind of food,
find paper dolls maybe, with that kind of clothing, or make an image. Find a
photo of them if you can. Buy toy objects that resemble the things they
liked to use in their life, things that represent the way they lived. Create
a collection that represents your understanding of the nature of that
person's life.
